Mortgage application lender asking unusual question?

Have a good day.0

Hi Elsie. Every lender has a different process and ultimately criteria will vary - this may be why last time it was accepted within a week but is now taking longer. The lender probably just wants the reassurance that it isn't an ongoing sickness, since this could effect future income and the ability to repay the mortgage. Hope that helps0

That's what I wrote in my first reply, but apparently that is not helpful. Oh well.0 -

I appreciate your efforts to help. I apologise if I took your tone as something other than it was intended. Let's draw a line underneath it and move on, i genuinely wish you a good day :beer:0 -
Our mortgage lender queried one random direct debit from my bank account, wanting to know exactly what it was for. No idea why but it didn't cause any problems. They will want reassurance that your circumstances are stable - you've given them that so I wouldn't worry too much.Savings target: £25000/£25000

I've just had my mortgage approved yesterday now onto survey etc going forward.
After hearing all the tales about more stringent lending and scrutinising bank statements etc I was dreading it (even though I have excellent credit and good current account history) truth is they didn't barely ask anything about bank statements only enacted payslips.
It did seem they ask questions more about what type of mortgage you want?
It did take 3 hours to do but a lot of that was me deciding on 3 or 5 year deal.0 -
I think you took it exactly as it was meant - but that's just my opinion.ElsieMonkey wrote: »I appreciate your efforts to help. I apologise if I took your tone as something other than it was intended. Let's draw a line underneath it and move on, i genuinely wish you a good day
I agree that it's common question if you have sick pay in the last 6-12 months0 -
Some people are so touchy! There was nothing wrong with Miss Samanthas comment.
It's normal to be asked this. Lenders have recently been increasing the detail asked in mortgage applications. "How would you pay the mortgage if your wife died", "I see you paid £150 to John Smith on 18th May, what was that for?" etc are all normal.0 -
people want reassurance, but at the end of the day we as strangers are not the lender, so ultimately they need to be honest and wait for the decision, no amount of discussion on this internet forum is going to change that."It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Thought these forums were about advice, support and sharing knowledge...
It seemed a reasonable point to me elsiemonkey , you said it hadn't happened before, but them again applying for a mortgage with sick pay on your payslips is presumably not a common occurrence either
