Good value low running cost family car

  • Why?

    How big are children ?
If you're a family of 5 you are driving at full capacity most of the time with no room for parents or other relatives and kids friends etc. Having the option of 2 extra seats is such a bonus for not much (if any) extra running costs. If a Galaxy type car is too big then a Zafira sized car will do the job. The Zafira is based on an Astra floorplan but is so much more practical and useful.

So you might just as well buy an Astra Estate then (or an estate in that class)? You don't need those extra seats for a family of 5, all you are doing in loosing your boot space if you do use them, that means no room for luggage and as the OP states that they spend a fair bit of time driving from one end of the country to another to visit relatives, they will need boot space for luggage and pushchair etc.

Thanks for your thoughts, some cars we hadn't thought of there, bit more research to do today before getting out to see some tomorrow. It had crossed our minds to get something a bit bigger than the polo for the next couple of years on a smaller budget and then change cars again if/when baby number 3 comes along. maybe able to get towards a Volvo by then, always been impressed by their safety ratings.

Just wear some flame retardant suits for when it goes up in smoke- the perfect choice for any family!

Citroen C4 Picasso fits 3 full size car seats in the back.

We looked at a qashquai but you couldn't fit three car seats in the back. Same with the Mondeo as the middle seat wobbles on the raised bit of the back bench. The C4 does fit three car seats in the back, as its fairly roomy you can also lean in very easily to do up the harness.

It's easy for older kids to climb through from the front too, my eldest likes that.

Or you could just check that it's had the recall work done, no big deal, if its been in for the recall it'll be fine, if it hasn't walk away or make sure the vendor has it done before you collect the car.

But how confident would you be every time you turned the key and drove away? It would always be on my mind.
