Married but only OH name on mortgage and deeds

This is my first post so please be kind!
My husband and I are selling a house and buying a new one. The house we are in now is in his name only as he owned it before we were together. He earns a lot more than me has a much better credit rating and I'm on maternity leave and so the new house is being mortgaged in his name only too which means only his name is on the deeds too. I contribute to our current mortgage and will continue to do so on the new property.
Although we have no intention of divorcing I am a bit concerned about having no rights to the house if the worst happens.
I've tried several searches but cannot find the answer. Does the fact that we are married give me any rights/ protection in the event of divorce or his death? Not that I want to have to think about these things!

Being married, contributing to household bills, raising his soon-to-be children, and home-making all contribute to your claim for the house should the worst happen.
Will your new mortgage lender be happy not having your name on the mortgage and deeds? I would have thought that they would prefer you are listed too.0 -
You cant be on the deeds if you arent on the mortgage in most cases , but you do have protection should he pop it by being married , but best case would be for you to be on the mortgage and the deeds and as joint tenants so if one of you pops off the house passes straight to the surviving spouse with no worries regards it going into the others estate

It's reassuring to know that all those things help me to have a claim but I was wondering if there was anything more watertight than that.
We enquiried about putting my name on the deeds but were told by the lender it would also need to be a joint mortgage. My oh is worried we won't be able to get such a good deal with my less than perfect credit rating and current income and outgoings. They don't seem bothered that he's financing it on his own, no.0 -
Thank you. I don't have terrible credit rating now but it is improved from terrible!0

Has he checked what you would get as a joint applicant?
We have moved house twice and got a joint mortgage each time, although I wasn't working. We also increased out mortgage to build an extension.
Has your husband made a will to pass the house to you in the event of his death?0 -

you are vastly better protected by being joint owner and joint mortgagee
otherwise any protection you get will only come from going to court and all the stress and cost that entails
if he dies then, without a will, you will own nothing as his child will be the sole owner : do you really want a stroppy 18 year old owning the roof over your head?
if you have any joint bank accounts then you are already both financially linked
how bad is your credit history?
unless its truely awful the get a joint mortgage and have joint ownership.0 -
It isn't as bad as it sounds. I think he'd prefer to do it together but is worried about the impact of my credit history. We do have a good relationship, he's a good man and I know he sees it as our house regardless but I'm more cynical and know that you should always be prepared for the unexpected!0
