Speeding in Spain.

I've got a Spanish speeding ticket via my hire car company.

I make it a policy not to speed but from the time of the offence I think it was just as I got off the 'motorway' onto a side road with maybe a 30kph limit and as I was looking for directions to an apartment maybe I wasn't careful enough about my speed.

Anyway I accept it and it will come out of my CC, no problem.

But how does this work from now on.

When renewing my car insurance in UK do I have to declare the offence and in future when hiring a car anywhere do I have to declare the offence?

Funny thing is the hire car company now tell me I can purchase 'FAW coverage available at the counter. Such coverage shall allow you to enjoy Legal Defence protection against Administrative Traffic Offences and Limited Reimbursements of Enrollment Fees in Training Courses for Partial Recovery of Points.'
Dunno if that is just a legal defence option similar to UK car insurance add on.

Anyway my last speeding fine was 37 years ago and I've only ever had two.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

From March 2007, the EU has approved the transferring of fines and sentences, including penalty point’s losses between participating EU States, the UK, Ireland and Spain included.

The points work in reverse in Spain, you start at 12 and lose them for offences

    ...........

but that doesn't mean it's been implemented of course.
AFAIK there is no exchange of minor motoring offence data between UK and Spain.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

It's been approved but not yet implemented in all EU countries.
The UK, Ireland and Denmark have until May next year to implement the directive (EU 2015/413).
