Investigating PPI on behalf of deceased father

Hey!
So I'm in the midst of a tonne of documents trying to figure out if my dad did or didn't have PPI. The problems I'm coming across are that the documents are from before 2005 and number two, I'm struggling with how do I go about contacting the relevant companies to see if he was missold ppi. Don't really know if he was pressured into getting it if he did at all etc. There's not really an option for representing a deceased member of family either thus making it more difficult.
Any help would be muchly appreciated!

You cannot make any allegations like that. You were not present. You can only use factual/provable things in the complaint. There's not really an option for representing a deceased member of family either thus making it more difficult.
Yes there is. The executor of the estate holds the legal right to raise a complaint. Any successful outcome sees the redress used to offset any debt written off on death or paid into the estate if no debt.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If they were loans by regulated companies, use single premium as a complaint reason.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

Thanks for your responses!
I was speaking to my mother, when I found the documents and who's behalf I'm doing it on and she is now the owner of the property and the estate. She's not named on the original policy but she did say that when they did go to do the mortgage etc, they were told it was something they had to sign up for. Though, she's not a policyholder on the original document.
Taff - Just wondering would that complaint be a reason for a mortgage too?
Thanks!0 -

That allegation wont wash. Its third party and unprovable. Although it is possible they did need to. Until the mid/late 90s, deals were available that required the purchase of an insurance via the bank to get the mortgage deal. That was allowed as long as the insurance was suitable. If a broker was used, then many brokers require the purchase of an insurance to give free mortgage advice. Again, a model that is allowed as long as the insurance is suitable.
Was this mortgage via a broker or bank?Taff - Just wondering would that complaint be a reason for a mortgage too?
No. MPPI (assuming it is that you are referring to an not things like life assurance or MIG) is monthly premium direct debit. That is one of the reasons most MPPI complaints fail. Indeed, MPPI is still retailed today. It is one of only two types of PPI that still is.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The mortgage was with the Britannia Building Society and it seems that the PPI was provided by Cornhill Insurance?
One other part to note that I've seen in the guides before coming on to this, was that the "Unemployment Cover" didn't really exist in words. The policy I have to hand says it covers Unemployment...
Cheers! There's a few other personal loans where it's evident that it was charged as a single premium and have followed that up with relevant banks, just wondered if it applied to a mortgage too.0 -

PPI covered accident, sickness and unemployment. Indeed, until around 10-12 years ago, PPI used to be known as ASU. Some policies were available that were accident and sickness only. You could get some unemployment only ones as well.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Well the PPI Certificate says "Britannia Independant Insurance Direct" and under it says "and Cornhill Insurance". The PPI policity schedule document says Britannia , but the insurers name on the document says "Cornhill". I'm gathering Britannia sold the product and used Cornhill to provide it for us?0

Also, I've found another MPPI taken out which was taken as a Yearly premium. This was taken out under Chelsea Building Society in the late 80's (I think my parents transferred Mortgage companies in the early 90's). As this was actually taken out as what looks like a single premium is it worth trying to claim on it?
In regards to the legitimate claims I do have from the loans side of things, when reclaiming back the money do I also need to take into account the value of the pound from then compared to now?0 -

Single premium insurance product purchased in the 1980s? Probably MIG rather than MPPI....In regards to the legitimate claims I do have from the loans side of things, when reclaiming back the money do I also need to take into account the value of the pound from then compared to now?

It isn't if the OP's mother was present and she can say so in any PPI Q or FOS complaint.
Yes, it's only lay evidence from one party - but then so is whatever the bank clerk said and any notes retained.
It's always more difficult after the passage of so much time, but some such claims do succeed - even if it takes the FOS to ask the bank to think again.
taz1994 - have you searched for any dormant accounts your Dad may hold? This is often a useful tool for those reclaiming on behalf of a loved one's estate. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0
