Hi
In May i bought some patio doors from B&Q, i eventually fitted them today along with a mate (a builder), we got the frame in, the plumb line was near on perfect, only when we came to hang the doors did we find that they were warped, not from top to bottom but from around the middle to the top, they are both warped but in different dirrections!!. I am gonna ring them tomorrow about this but wanted to know how i stand on this. I have stored them flat. I can't take the whole unit back cause i've fixed the frame in to the wall. Does anyone know what kind of reaction i may get as i want to be prepared, ideally i would like them to replace just 2 new doors and for them to fit them.

Evening Jase,
I used to work in B&Q (until last week) and i don't think you will have a problem with them getting replacement doors if they still stock them, do you have proof of purchase? If you don't them you may come unstuck as you have no proof that you got them from there unless they SPECIFICALLY (sp) say they are B&Q doors on the packaging.
Did B&Q agree to fitting them in the first place? From your first post you say that you want them to replace the doors and "for them to fit them."
I cant see that happening.... very blunt but i doubt that would happen unless it was part of the original agreement.
Any other questions i'll try to do my best to help.

Thanks for your reply. Yes i do have proof of purchase, There was no original agreement for them to fit the doors but i thought it would be worth a try for them to come out and see the problems i faced. I would quite willingly accept an offer of new doors though.0

Just had a call from B&Q asking me to ring the manufacturer of the doors, which i did, they are going to send out a technician to see if its an installation problem (which its not). Hopefully i should be getting somewhere, im a bit miffed that i have to chase it though, surely i entered the contract with B&Q and it should be their job to sort it!0

interesting to see this - and I can understand what you mean about getting B&Q to pay for the fitting. By this... do you mean the re-fitting of replacement doors? (I ask this as I had a similar problem with Magnet - it has taken 8 months for them to supply replacement patio doors and I'm going to have to pay for them to be refitted - my head tells me Magnet should pay ... but I'm getting tired of arguing)Bern :j0

Correct me if I am wrong but the Sale of Goods Act is slightly more in your favour here.
If the goods were bought less than 6 months ago then the vendor has to prove that the fault is not with the product, rather than leave it to the consumer to prove that the fault is with the product.
Also, I think you are right. The contract was with B&Q, and not with their supplier. It may be worth your while escalating the problem with B&Q and stating that arguement. If they then want to involve the supplier in determining whether or not they've been fitted correctly etc, then they are at liberty to do this.
B&Q do seem to have a bit of a reputation for passing the buck.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0
