Refund might not happen until next statement

Hi,
I'm waiting for a refund to go too my Vanquis credit card which might take 7-10 days but the end of month date for the credit card is 9th, so how can I avoid paying interest?
Should I pay-off the credit card now, but end up being in credit when the refund happens? If I do this could I just phone and ask for the money to be sent to my bank account with no fees?
I don't want to leave the money on the card.

Pay in full, then ask for the credit to be returned or just spend it.0
