Tax credit renewal...p60 figure differs to HMRC renewal income?

Hi, have received renewal form in which HMRC have stated my income to 5/4/16 as over £1,000 less than my actual P60 states...tried to go online to change the figure but it wasn't one of the listed options ... I can't even understand why the figures differ if they are both supplied via my employer/NI number income figures??
I have been in my current role with same employer, my only employment, for 14yrs and never had a problem before, although I normally ring in the actual earnings, this is the first time I've received notification with HMRC already 'knowing' my income... I will be ringing them (at my blooming cost Grrr!) to advise them of difference, however has anyone else experienced this? Seems very bizarre

Could be that your employer has given HMRC the wrong figure. It happens.0
