Debt transfer problem. Moving from E-On to Ebico.
Hope someone can help
How long should it take to transfer debt when changing suppliers?
Just left E-On and moved to Ebico I was roughly £350 in debt to E-On and on pre-payment meter and paying it off Weekly
I just found out ( 2 weeks after I switched) that my debt is still with E-On. (According to E-On that is!)
But my pre-payment meter is using Ebico's tariffs AND taking money against the debt.
E-On said it should have been agreed between suppliers to transfer debt before the switch and it is not to late to transfer it. I've not heard back from Ebico's (but it's only been less than 24 hours since I contacted them about this)
Anyone else had problems leaving E-On? Or moving to Ebico?

Hiya S0litaire,
I'm sorry to read that you've decided to leave us
It's up to your new supplier to take the debt and add this to your meter, so you can continue to pay the balance off.
We can't sent the debt over.
You'd normally request the debt be transferred when you make first contact with the new supplier.
It may just be a case of giving them a bit more time to reply to you.
Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for your quick reply.
I'm currently awaiting a reply from "SSE- Scottish Hydro", they are the suppliers for Ebico in my area, to find out about the current situation regarding the Balance Transfer and to see if it was even requested by them in the first place.Laters

**Update**
Got a reply from SSE -Scottish Hydro saying basically
Debt transfer has to be manually initiated DURING the transfer period.
So I'm stuck paying 2 suppliers! With the added annoyance (Whole point of moving was to get a better deal to help pay the debt down quicker using the Key meter.)
I've asked them why the transfer wasn't done.
At the moment I'm seriously thinking of moving BACK* to E-On in a month or so if SSE can't fix this or give me a good enough explanation as to why the transfer wasn't done!!
(*Switching back is dependent on any good switch deals available!!)Laters

Hiya S0litaire,
Thank you very much for the update.
To be honest it sounds a bit messyand something you need a straight answer for.
I can't sort out the debt balance for you, as we know it's something the new supplier needs to take with them.
I'm here to help you if you want to consider moving back to E.ON or if there's any more information you need from me, I can't let you know about tariff's etc on the forum as you probably know.
I hope you get things resolved asap.
