Earning Minimum Wage and struggling to live

OP would still need to pay their bills from their JSA, and would quite possibly have to pay toward his rent and council tax also.
I'm not sure how your point is relevant or helpful?
Because if the OP is better off on benefits then its moneysaving.
Its quite possible they would not have to pay towards their rent.
Its also not certain they would be sanctioned for 6 months.
It depends how they part from their job.0 -
Hi All
Slightly depressing post here and could do with some support.
Basically I am in a minimum wage job with a little bonus on top on it once a month, my outgoings are huge though.
I live in a council property and have to pay 440 a month 74 c tax bills, such as water electricity gas all on top on that. I also pay 50 a week net to my wife for my child (i am currently separated). Basically I have added it up and have very very little to live on, even for eating.
I have completed a housing benefit form but I spoke to someone at the council and they were doubtful that I would qualify. I then did an online chat with the HMRC for tax credits and they seemed to think that because I earnt 14K and above a year that I wouldn't qualify for that. Its almost worth going back on the dole to be honest and its really getting me down.
Any help appreciated.
Ben
Hi, first thing i saw was your council tax was 74 most councils do this over 10 months, if thats the case can you pay over 12 months0 -
Even if he left his job, didn't get sanctioned, and got his full rent and council tax paid, he's still only have the same amount left for food and bills, just with less travel costs.
So his child would be worse off, he'd have no job, for the sake of an £80 saving a month? And that's assuming no rental contributions or council tax contributions (which are unlikely)0 -
I don't think "advising" someone to go on the dole is a very good answer now is it, maybe better off but have you ever been on benefits it's so much more depressing than working & OP would still have just about as much left to live on
I doubt they would get full HB or CTB, I have to pay about 10% top-up on each, but I am hopefully going back to work full time next week0
