Hi

Bit of a stupid question. I'm trying to sort some stuff out today and want to close my Barclaycard today if possible. It has an outstanding balance. I am transferring the balance to a HSBC card but it takes about 5-6 days to all go through. Can I ring up BC and cancel my credit card today or do I have to wait for it all to go through?

wait until the balance on barclaycard is at £0 and then close it. Give it a week or two then phone them.

When you phone up barclaycard, as an aside, they may offer you some money to keep it open, I would accept this, spend this and then close it.

I closed my account a year ago, suddenly I got a statement out of the blue last month, there was £20 credit on the account.

Make sure it's a zero balance, wait a few weeks just in case - then close it. There is absolutely no rush as it won't make a difference to anything.
