Offer on my house but can't find another house to buy

  • After accepting an offer on ours we spent 10 weeks trying to find a house we wanted to move to. We wanted a bigger house in area, but there seemed to be nothing there for us. There was a chain behind too. We'd given up and I declared, whilst sitting outside what I said would be our final viewing that we would contact the EA and end the sale. We even decided that the house we were about to look at wasn't going to be for us, so were about to ring the EA acting for the property we were sat outside that we wanted to cancel and weren't interested when he pulled up in his car 15 minutes early. We decided it was too embarrassing to leave, so decided to grin and bear the viewing before going home and choosing a new kitchen and bathrooms for the home that was going to be ours for a few more years. Needless to say we bought the place, and all being well we move in 6 weeks! Hold the line!
As an aside, we widened our search out of interest in the last week of searching and had we not done this we would never have found what we found. We are moving from a 4 bed detached to a 3 bed semi; it sounds mad, but there is a loft room which will be a bedroom, the rooms are 3 times bigger, it is in a better state of repair than the one we are leaving. We've had to compromise on a few things (you always have to), but we think we will be happy there. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I've got some viewing booked for the weekend so fingers crossed one of them will be 'the one' :)

I'm guessing the estate agent has told them that we need to find something else. They are cash buyers so no chain. I've decided to see if anything else comes onto the market in the next couple of weeks, otherwise I may just have to rent rather than lose my sale.

I am willing to buy something which needs a bit of work, but the market at the moment isn't very good and there's not much choice.

Your buyer is presumably in the same boat as you re finding an acceptable house so I'd have thought they would cut you more slack than that. And it's not as if they have a chain below them. Imagine you finally found your dream house but your vendors hadn't, you'd likely hang on a while even if you continued looking.
