Poor seals around oven - can I return?

I bought a Hotpoint gas oven (£400) from ao.com about 6 months ago.

The seals around both top & bottom ovens are pathetic; I can feel the heat escaping around the doors.

I've now decided not to put up with this any longer and have requested to return this one and choose a different model from them.

ao.com have replied saying they can't accept an exchange or replacement but will send an engineer to repair the cooker.

What are my rights, please?

Within the first 6 months AO have to repair replace or refund if they cannot prove its not a manufacturing defect. They however get to choose which remedy

6 months? Over 6 month? Less than 6 months.

If it's just poor design then you have no rights as it would just be a change of mind in your part. It's Hotpoint so it's poor design! We had a Hotpoint cooker and it was just rubbish. Not faulty, just rubbish. I'll never buy Hotpoint again as they are inferior to other equally priced appliances out there.

Thank you for the 2 helpful replies. I've agreed to have an engineer come, to replace the seals.
