A cat c car has caught my eye but how can I best confirm what damage actually occurred to the vehicle and also what type of establishment undertook the repair?
Basically any advice on buying a car c car would be appreciated

Cheers

You ask the seller, basically, assuming he knows and assuming you think he'll tell the truth. Or you get someone who knows what he's doing to do a thorough examination. The Cat C marker merely records the fact that the car was written off. There's no central record or other easy way of checking what damage was actually done or how it was repaired.
  • You can't really unless you speak to the owner who had it when the da,age occurred. It may not be the owner who is currently selling the vehicle.
  • You need an Engineer Report:

Only buy it if you are intending on keeping it for years - and its at least 30-40% less than a clean car of similar spec.

You will never know the extent of the damage.

The seller will no doubt tell you it was light panel damage, etc, etc whereas in reality it probably looked like it was hit by a torpedo.

Someone has put it back on the road to make a profit and as such they've used second hand parts, straightened bits that were bent and should have been replaced, not bothered / fixing bits you cant see, used pattern fit parts instead of genuine ones and blown a coat of paint over the top of it.

Work on that assumption and you wont be too disappointed.
