I just went to do some updates onto my Windows 7 PC and the Optional updates include a pre-selected upgrade to Windows 10.
Remember to check the optional ones when doing updates, folks!

You might as well recommend installing an Extra Strong Mint, for most people it would be about as useful.
You Linux fanboys really need to understand that only a very small number of non-Mac computer users have any interest in anything other than Windows, wouldn't have the slightest clue what to do if presented with a Linux command line, and have even less desire to find out.0 -

All we'll be probably be getting from then onwards is people moaning about how much the new OS costs...

Just thinking the same.
Dare I risk asking what's wrong with Windows 10 - it's free, works fine & has some useful features. Hope these same people don't moan when Win7 support stops.....0 -

Because Windows 10 doesn't offer anything more over Windows 8.1 (despite the names, they're mostly the same operating system but a slick bit of marketing has people incorrectly convinced Win10 is much better) and Windows 10 has more snooping features, more forceful over using MS products/updates and loses all the touchscreen features. There is no benefit to upgrading my PC's so the forced Win10 prompts are no better than malware that keep nagging me and can't be disabled or uninstalled until a third party utility is installed - the fact they do so on machines that are entirely incompatible with Windows 10 is a really bad idea.
I'm very much hoping they do finish their 'free' upgrade offer next month but in the meantime (or indefinitely if they keep forcing Win10 on people) I'd recommend GWX Control Panel to block Windows 10, there's also been some recommendations for Never10 although haven't used it myself.

I downgraded all my machines to Windows 10 and then upgraded them back to Windows 7. So they now have their details in MS system so I am free to downgrade whenever I want in the future and the machine will already be registered as a valid electronic downgradewhy?

I can't even do that with 3 of our Win 7 machines because their hardware architecture will not allow the Win 10 downgrade to complete. Microsoft got this so very wrong.
I'll happily stay with Win 7 thank you.

It's not just a Windows thing. I've got the 10.11 downgrade for Mac OSX and would happily upgrade it back all the way to 10.6 Snow Leopard so all my software will start working again and the stuff that turned to ashes (like iTunes ) will revet to not being user-hostile.
