Samsung tablet not charging

I,ve given my old Samsung tablet to my granddaughter and it's now stopped charging.
When I plugged it in to charge, the battery would come on in the middle of the screen and then go fully green when charged, but now the battery comes on for about 10 seconds and then on the right hand side it now shows about 1/8th blue, then this then goes off, 30 seconds later it does that again.
Anyone any ideas as to what is wrong with it.
Thank you.

I,ve blown into the charging point and the charger this seems to make it come on, but it doesn't stay on.0

Is the same charger being used?
I have a Samsung tab and 2 identical looking chargers, it charges with one, but not the other.
The 'non working' charger works fine on my other tablet. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

Yes the original charger.0

Probably the battery .
But it would be worth a factory reset ( wipes all data ) just in case its an unlikely software problem .0 -

Sounds like a similar problem to my wifes Samsung tablet. If she lets the battery run down so much that the thing turns itself off, it will not come on again once plugged in.
The battery symbol displays for about 2 seconds and then disappears, then reappears again for about 2 seconds etc.
What she has to do is leave it on charge for about 3 days and it eventually starts charging again !0 -
You could try a new USB cable for the charger plug, they don't last forever.0

That sounds a bit like my daughter's old Samsung Galaxy Ace phone. I know this sounds odd, but ... is the battery accessible on the tablet? With the phone I could take out the battery, short the battery terminals (carefully and quickly), refit the battery and then charge the phone ... this would allow the battery to charge far quicker than leaving it for several days.
Not sure WHY this worked, but it did.
Caveat - try this at your own risk!0 -
I know it's not really money saving but buy a new battery and fit it your self . You don't say model number but most samsung tablet batteries are less than £20 on ebay I've never changed a battery in a Samsung tablet but have changed 4 or 5 screens and battery needs to come out for that .0
