questions re potential BT => SKY switch

Hi,

Activated the 30 day notice period with BT today - and the advisor said i should tell SKY that i want them to takeover on 6th July.

Would i be able to specify a date with SKY ? As i just had a look on their site and it mentions that its usually 2 weeks from initial order that they do the actual switch over... so i am thinking maybe i should delay the order for 2 weeks to fit in with that time scale ?

Also i understand how/when to claim the 100 M&S voucher, but should i go through my Topcashback account ? and would i get cashback as well as M&S voucher.

SKY states that " available to 90% of UK " do they have an application to input postcode to check my area is covered ? - i live in a small town, so hopefully ok, but it is down in South Devon..

Hope these are not stupid questions, but havnt switched phone or BB before..

Thanks

IIUC, the date is agreed between the 2 providers and they tell you. It has to be that way so that the changeover can be co-ordinated to avoid lengthy loss of service. I would sign with Sky ASAP.

Depends on how the cashback offer is worded.

I would expect they would have an app for checking. Or you could try this: https://www.cable.co.uk/guides/can-i-get-sky-broadband/

    Good luck.

Changing provider is 'gaining provider led' , in other words you contact the company you want to move to, and they do everthing else,(including giving notice to BT) if you contacted BT yourself, you may find that you have in effect cancelled BT and ordered a 'new' line from Sky, so you could get hit with a broadband 'cease' fee, (£30 ish) that you wouldn't get if you migrated service from BT to Sky, ordering thru a cash back site may complicate things further, you may also find you get a new number from Sky , this may or may not be important to you.

    One other thing:
You dont need to give 30 days if another provider is taking over the line. Its only 14 days.

BT to Sky is dead easy. What you should have done:
    Sign up to sky first.
Sky will then confirm with BT and give you a transfer date. This will almost certainly be 14 days from your order date (barring any issues).
BT will then send you a confirmation (will probably phone and send a letter, we had both).
    Then just wait.

BT will tell you NOT to cancel any DD. Tell them to go away then cancel it. Trying to get money back from BT is like pulling teeth.
