american fridge/freezer water filter upside down!

Our water filter is behind the fridge/ freezer. It is a pain to change because the fridge/ freezer sits on the untiled floor and has to be levered up to slide it forward onto the tiled floor.
Anyway, changed the filter last week but used a compatible rather than Samsung. this only had a ridge at one end so replaced it with the plastic ties below the ridge so that the filter won't fall through. The flow of water is in the right direction but the filter is actually the wrong way up - does this matter?
