Reclaiming PPI

Hi Guys,
I keep thinking about doing this - and keep leaning towards using a company because I cannot remember who I had loans with and do not have any account details etc. I am presuming that a company will be able to put my name into a computer and find out all this information.
I seem to remember writing to Egg a couple of years ago, and they said that I didn't have a claim - which put me off a bit and made me feel as though I was doing something I wasn't experienced enough to be doing.
Advise would be gratefully received.
Best wishes
Stephanie

Your presumption is inaccurate. CMCs do not have access to any such magic database.

A company will put your name into a suckers' database and you'll start receiving lots of interesting and unexpected phone calls.0 -

An incorrect assumption. Your data with who you may or may not have held insurance with is not in the public domain. There is no database.
The only record that is potentially available is your credit record. However, that goes back 6 years and we are now late in the game and most lenders were not retailing PPI 6 years ago.I seem to remember writing to Egg a couple of years ago, and they said that I didn't have a claim - which put me off a bit and made me feel as though I was doing something I wasn't experienced enough to be doing.
The claims companies use the same address to send their complaint to you as you would if you DIY. The bank/lender looks at the complaint the same way whether you do it or whether it comes from a CMC.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
