WASPI Campaign .... State Pensions

That meeting was addressed in parliament today during Questions to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions: 11 July 2016. The exchange was:
"What recent representations he has received from the Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign; and if he will make a statement": "The Minister for pensions the noble Baroness Altmann and I recently met with WASPI representatives to listen to their concerns. We made clear the government's position that we will not be unwinding past decisions and that there are no plans to change the policy".
A welcome statement for the majority who post here on this subject.
Added later. This is now in Hansard.0 -

er ...... I think the Government has made the same statement from day one .... not sure where you have been hiding!0 -
It may be the same statement but if Altmann has recently reiterated it to WASPI then Jamesd's comment is relevant.
JamesD can make as many comments as he so wishes ..... and usually does!!
Same goes for JennyB and friends ...
Point is that the statement is no different in policy to any other put out by the Government since this issue started ....0 -
Well, let's hope that the apparently now divided WASPI take it as final and bury their ill-conceived 'ask' for good.
Ah ... the demise of WASPI. That's been prominent pretty much since they became known too.
When WASPI does eventually meet it's demise, so too will any chance of changes to the 2011 Act which so many think is unfair - particularly those that had less than ten years notice!
C'est la vie .....0 -

Indeed, that is life - and I'm one if the women affected.
If WASPI hadn't been so ridiculously grasping with their first poorly thought out 'ask', maybe something could have been done about the 2011 Act.0 -

It would depend on how you measure 'progress'. WASPI are no nearer to achieving their goal than at the outset. However, in terms of a campaign raising awareness they have been very successful.
Nothing was going to happen before WASPI appeared. Nothing may happen after WASPI has gone. Within the next number of years, those impacted will be receiving their pension, be it 64, 65, or 66. At that point, the cause will be no more.
The point still stands - if the Government does not move an inch, the situation for those impacted will be no different, in pension terms, to what it was before WASPI came along. The only difference is, had WASPI not come along, just about nobody would have been talking about it!
Given that the Government does not have an effective opposition and is seemingly unlikely to have one for some considerable time, said Government can do virtually as they wish. A particularly concerning situation, regardless of the colour of the Government or the Opposition!!0 -

Yes ... but if all those impacted by the 2011 Act and felt that something should be done about it then they too could have started a campaign converse to the WASPI ask.
The suggestion appears to be that many think the 2011 Act was unfair. However, the same 'many' did not do enough about it. Unfortunately all that happened was most of those spent their time moaning about WASPI in a cesspit of negativity.
If someone wants something to happen do something about it .... don't spend time moaning about what someone else is doing, or not doing.0
