Cancelling credit card application after credit check

I applied for an AA credit card and they've asked for some extra ID from me before they can make a decision. I'm fairly sure they've already done a credit check.

I've decided I don't want to provide the ID, and I'd therefore like to cancel my application. However, I'm concerned that it might look bad on my credit file if I've had a credit check but don't have credit from that company. Might future prospective lenders think that I was turned down, rather than turning them down - and will that matter?

Please tell me I'm being paranoid.

You are paranoid ;). All the future lenders will see is a credit check, nothing else. And if you just have one credit check every couple months then they will not think anything of it.
