Nest or Heatmiser

I have underfloor heating all booked in to go and the only thing left to do is decide on how to control it. I've seen Nest but at the weekend someone suggested this - http://www.underfloorstore.co.uk/product/heatmiser-smart-thermostat-kit-neoair-kit

It is a little more expensive than Nest, doesn't do as much but still allows you to control heating from my handset as Nest does but I'm thinking from a future proof perspective Heatmiser is the way to go?

I've had zero experience with any either so was hoping someone could share theirs if possible...........

  • I've got the Nest and its great, zero complaints. I also have the Nest smoke detectors.

I am in love with Nest. The smoke/CO alarms are *outstanding*, the thermostats are great and it's lovely having the two together in one app.

I've been looking at different systems recently - decided to go with the nest in the end. I figure it's Google so will likely be supported/developed for a while and other things are developed to work with nest as it's the most popular one

    Thanks guys....

One thing with Nest after a little digging around Nest would need a state for every zone with ufh which would push things up price wise later on down the road and it won't work with electric ufh......

For electric UFH you need to look at something like NuHeat which is on the 'works with nest' list.

I've got the smoke/CO alarms and love them. I'm adding the heating/hot water controllers soon (only 2 heating zones at the moment) and then want to add in the NuHeat controllers for my electric UFH. I hope to add other things eventually as well, because I travel a lot for work and knowing that telling one app that I'm away/on my way back and everything else will respond accordingly is great. At the moment I frequently realise I've left things on unecessarily... or I get home to a cold house when I come home earlier than planned. Sadly my salary doesn't run to a housekeeper, so Nest is the next best alternative. If only it would do the ironing...

Sorry off-topic, but talk of Nest and its Internet of Things ilk, this blog & twitter account is quite amusing and informative about such devices.

Especially interesting is what happens when these companies fold or the device is superseded - you may be left with an expensive paperweight or wall ornament. One important question is for how long will the device be supported (you already see a lack of software updates for 5 year old phones, for example).
  • I have a Nest. I'm happy with it. But I'd be wary of buying one right now. The company seems to be in trouble.
