Cost to replace boiler and remove tanks

As above, was wondering approx how much it would cost to replace our existing boiler (in the same location) with a combi boiler and disconnect the water tanks in loft and the airing cupboard. I know 'how long is a piece of string', but any approximate costs? I was planning up to £1000 for a new combi boiler, but how much for the works?

    Not too much.

It'll cost more if you want them to "remove" rather than "disconnect".

You might have to replace the gas pipes as combi boilers need much more gas and therefore a bigger pipe is required. Depending on where your boiler is and where the meter is this might be quite costly.

Building reg's have moved on as well. The flue might need to be moved.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

British gas will quote 4.5k, everyone else prob around 1.5k.

Saying that, a colleague just had an amazing deal from BG but I think it was linked to ongoing maintenance contract.

Thanks people, sorry forgot to say i meant disconnect the tanks/water cylinder, ill happily break them up and remove them and any old pipes etc. its just the disconnection am after.

I have got the BG home cover for CH (had them replace the CH pump 6 months ago), so may try them to see how much, just wondering if its likely to cost £1000, £3000 or more

I'm in the Midlands , most plumbers ( help link local independent , quoted between 3.5k help link 2.5k local and said it would take 2 to 3 days. In the end used a1 plumbing services Nuneaton for £2350 and only took 1 day ( 2 men )

I've recently had a quote for similar work as we're extending the house and want to remove the airing cupboard to make way for a new doorway... remove my old boiler and fit a combi in the same location, take out my old tanks etc. The first quote i've got in is £2180 for an Ideal Logic+ and £2460 for a Vaillant. I'm in the North West.

Why do you want a combi? If it breaks down you will be without hot water.

Based on what? A lot of people slate Ideal because of their older boilers which gave them a really bad rep, but looking at a lot of the specialist forums they really have come on leaps and bounds with the later Logics... I think that's why they are offering 7 year warranties. They are getting great reviews from installers.

Yes, but I wouldn't want to have a shower using water heated in a kettle.

Unless you are lucky enough to know someone who will fix your boiler immediately then if it breaks down in winter you could be without hot water for several days. If that doesn't bother you then fine, but I would rather have a backup water heater so I don't have the inconvenience of showering at a gym etc.
