O/S Daily Monday 6 June 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Now light, cloudy but much warmer and forecast is for sun to get out later this morning, yesterday was the same and the sun came out and the sky cleared and it was a gorgeous day.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, DS2 still in his pit, but will wake him shortly to get ready for school.

Meals yesterday were altered about – we went to see DH’s grandad and by the time we got back it was lunchtime and we needed something to eat, so we had cheese, biscuits, tuna, ham etc, and I then put the pork in to roast mid afternoon, and no-one really wanted a full roast, so we had jacket potatoes, side salad, cous cous with it, made a nice change from a heavy roast meal. There’s some pork left, so I’ll be serving that either tonight or tomorrow night with either chips or potatoes with some other cold meats, pickles, salad etc as it’s not going to be wasted.

I’m back to work today and am expecting a busy day but we’ll see.

Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone, the sun is shining and it looks as though it will be a beautiful day.

I will be heading to the office in a bit, got loads to do though I tend to lessen it by doing some tasks at home on my days off. I know this is possibly not quite the right thing to do but at least it enables me to manage.

Couldn't face cooking Sunday dinner yesterday so I did spare ribs, Chinese rice and stir fried vegetables, must have been ok as not one scrap was left. OH can cook for himself and DS today as I am likely to be quite late back.
Hope everyone has a good day

    Morning All

I've been for a walk and done the ironing, just off in the shower ready for another day in the madhouse.

Lovely weekend here, the garden show was good but not that big, stopped for a picnic at a country park on the way home. BBQ at neighbours last night when it had cooled down a bit.

Hope you are all well, have a good week ahead. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

Sun is streaming in again. I woke at five and nodded off again.

Mum safely back at home and the trip there and back was good if slow.

Today will be a wind down kind of day. Yesterday I stripped the spare bed and put a white wash in and got it out on the line before we left.

There's beef strips to use up along with some salad.

I hope everyone has a good Monday.

Morning all. Another scorcher forecast - there'll be a hosepipe ban up here if this carries on!! It must be almost two weeks since we saw any rain.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day with our furry visitor yesterday. She's a little sweetheart (she's a pug btw). We had a long walk when DS dropped her off at 8.00, up to the farm track and on to the moors, almost as far as the Druids Altar. This was a daily walk for me when we had our two dogs. It's also a walk the DGD enjoy when we take them up there.

No plans for today, though Mr TA has the funeral this afternoon of an ex work colleague. It'll probably be another day of sitting/pottering/dining/reading in the garden for me. It's a shame to waste this weather doing jobs indoors! They can wait!

No need to do any "proper" cooking today as lots of bits and pieces and leftovers in the fridge which we can have with salad.

CSARINA I was tempted by the !!!! Strawbridge programme too so am hoping it will be on catch up to watch some other time. We missed it last night as it was on when DS/DP and boys came for Roxy. The boys had thoroughly enjoyed their day and went into great detail about all the rides they'd been on. Aaargh even the (Pepsi Max) Big One! That would be my worst nightmare though, when I was their age, I'd have loved it!

Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Especially HILSTEP for whom life is a struggle some time. Take care and enjoy the
lovely weather if you can xx

    Morning :hello:

I was clearing up bits of wire from the garden and must've got a bit caught on my shirt, there's a little rip on the front (along with a matching scratch on my tummy, lol!). I can repair it but the material is very thin so it's going to show. Shirt will be relegated to the Do Not Leave The House Wearing This part of my wardrobe :D I'm a bit miffed, it's so comfy and keeps me cool in the hot weather while covering me up at the same time. I bought it from Matalan last year, I looked at their website but they don't have it anymore.

I dragged everything out from my shelter, swept it then cleaned up my chairs. Put the chairs and coffee table back then had to find a home for the other stuff that had been dumped there. So I had to rearrange the shed a bit. I decided I didn't like the way the pots were arranged on the patio so I moved them all, sweeping as I went. The garden is tidy now, the area between the old and new chicken fences is messy but that's work-in-progress mess so it's OK :D

None of us have spent much time inside the house for a few days so it's still nice and tidy. I felt a bit sick and dizzy from the sun yesterday so I'm going to stay indoors for most of the day. I'll take Scampi out then potter about this morning, maybe read or crochet this afternoon.

Morning all. Thanks for starting us off Nmlc.
    Another lovely bright day here.

I hope to go to 'forest school' this morning with DS. The trees have grown so fast over the last few weeks so it will be interesting to see how much more they have grown, since last week.

After that I have our annual gas check. The engineer is coming between 1 and 5pm, so I will potter around at home for that. He has to check and run between the cooker and boiler which is upstairs. Slight inconvenience for what is so important.

Not a lot else on,except for the usual bits in the house and food planning.

Hilstep I hope you are feeling a bit better today xx

I hope everyone has a good Monday/week. Hugs to those in need of one. Xx

    Morning chums,

A weekend full of sunshine was lovely and tried to make the most of it. I bought a new suit for my grans funeral on Thursday and wrote a first draft of the eulogy.

My favourite memory of my Gran is one of the most treasured in my life. We'd all go to Southerness and cram ourselves into a couple of caravans for a week and have a truly terrific time. It's such a significant memory because it was a time when we had a full, yet small, family and unfortunately since then, time has had it's inevitable effect and taken away some of my most dearest. It's at sad times like these that memories such as this are most poignant and become even more important as they act as a reminder of those fantastic moments I shared with my Gran and the rest of my family.

camelot - a productive day for you already! Wish I could take a leaf from your book.
TA - I was just talking about that last night funnily enough. Between 5 of us we couldn't remember when it rained last.
Judi - Just saw your message from Friday. Hope you're both doing ok and it won't be too long before we see you back here,

I hope everyone has a lovely Monday and week ahead.

    Hi everyone,

DD and DS2 are back to school today so our routine returns. Had a lovely BBQ with the in laws yesterday and not too much meat left. DH and DS1 will have that for lunch.

Off to work at the church shortly, hoping to only do a couple of hours as I have a meeting this afternoon. 10 hours a week do not go far enough and I have to be quite mindful of going over my hours. May need to look at a full time job if things don't change for DH soon. Apparently lots of firms aren't making any hiring decisions until after the referendum so he could be off for a while yet.

Have a bag of things for the charity shop, so will pop those in this week, plus the usual washing and ironing to get through.

Hope you all have a lovely day

Hi chums took my bargain cooked chicken to DDs yesterday and we had a huge curry last night that fed 3 adults and 3 hollow-legged little boys all for 35p plus naans and rice

TV is smashing, and I am really pleased that I have got it in time for Wimbledon :) My favourite time of the year ,feet up, a glass of wine, perhaps a few crackers and blue cheese and a handful of grapes and Andy Murray rushing around bless him

My eldest DD saw 'The Boss' years ago in Leeds She had bought tickets to see him at Wembley but it was over-subscribed and a coach was laid on to take the fans to Leeds I think it was Roundhay Park. She said he was a fabulous entertainer and got everyone up dancing and she ended up dancing with one of the policemen who were working on crowd control then :) she said the officers were really friendly and chatty to the fans and there was no trouble at the gig whatsoever.Apparently every one had a really good time and she said it was like a huge party I at the time was a worried at the thought of my young teenage daughter going so far away by coach this was back in the days before youngsters had mobile phones and once out of sight you had to trust their common sense, but all was well thank goodness.

She is 50 next year and even now she still remembers seeing the concert and how much fun it was, and she's been to many concerts for lots of different folk since but she said his was by far the best she had ever seen for absolute good natured fun and he really had the crowd in the palm of his hand.

Today I am doing an essential shop as I seem to have run out of almost everything cleaning stuff loo rolls etc and I haven't been on a proper shop for almost two weeks as I am eating from my cupboards I am hoping it will be around £30.00 odd roughly ,but it will be stuff I have run short off and not just a browse around. I hate shopping, and am happy to stay away from shops as a rule . I have my list and I will hopefully get it done and dusted in under an hour :):):)

The sun looks as though it may show its face today I have some ironing to finish off when I get back from the shops but all my washing is up to date at least
Hope everyone has a good day what ever they are doing
    Cheers chums

P.S. Coxy 11 Have you been to the new Poundland shop on the business park at Gillingham Its really nice now its changed hands and there are lots of good bargains there I went with my DD and was surprised at how nice it was inside
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Looks like another sunny day, bed to be stripped and in the washer, might do the towels as well, sure to get them dry.

I got caught by the sun yesterday, will have to be a bit careful out in it today. I need to get another umbrella for the garden, the last one disintegrated so got chucked away.

Swift Monday clean to do once I have remade the bed, the house is not too bad we were out quite a bit last week, it's the kitchen that gets the worst. At least now we have the outside tap, we are not carting water about.

I still need to plant up the front, but the ground is as hard as iron so it will have to wait for rain.

Cold chicken and salad for supper tonight, lettuce from the garden.
