Is it worth keeping an old car going?

    Better the devil you know.
    The jobs you mention are low cost wear and tear so you could buy a newer car and it may still need jobs doing of similar nature. You know the car you have and it's good reliable engine, keep it going. You could buy something newer and it breakdown next week.

    The reason it won't be an in demand classic is the same reason as many vehicles.

    It is bland and boring. By all means there may be enthusiasts that want that age Golf.

    But they are more likely to want a Corrado, mk1/mk2 Golf or mk1/mk2 Scirocco. Even a Jetta has more character.
  • Some of us prefer cars of this timeline, which were designed in that sweet spot around the 90's.
    They tended to be long lasting, good for corrosion and not too much silly electronics on them.

    All my cars come from this period, they might appear bland or dated or unfashionable to others, but if none of those things are of the slightest worry to you and you care less what others think whats the problem.

    I would venture cars of this era are more likely to attain classic age than their equivalents made today, which if you read these forums regularly present their owners with 4 figure bills not long out of warranty,
    eg as owners of recent Diesel Golfs with EGR probs have already discovered and those with DSG boxes will discover long before they reach 20 years.
