My upstairs line is crackly, so I gave the 17070 test number a try

BT line test facilities.
Please press 1 for ring back, 2 for quiet line, 3 for fast test, 4 for fast cleanse or clear down.
So are you supposed to hear literally nothing at all after choosing the quiet line, or just a faint hum?
What do the options 3 & 4 mean?
