POST OFFICE HOMEPHONE.(No minimum call charge)

I notice that the Post Office Home Phone Service https://www.postoffice.co.uk does not have a minimum call charge, and its second billing, with no connection fee.

Ok the call charges are not great. But if you make lots of short calls,2minutes or less at peak rate,4 minutes or less evening and weekends (you ask people to ring you back, ordering cabs, etc, etc) you could cut your bill, given that many of the calls we make only attract the min charge.

Is anybody using this service, and what are there experiences with it?
PF.

I haven't heard of anyone here actually using it as most people use 18866/1899 at only 2p or 3p per call no matter the duration.

.... along with using either OneTel or TalkTalk for free weekend calls (or free evening/weekend calls for those that took advantage to OneTel/TalkTalk's offer that ended not so long ago).

OneTel's free weekend calls is better than TalkTalk as there is no limit on the length of the call (TalkTalk have a 70min length).

BBB, funny I was just checking out the TalkTalk, Onetel, Tesco offers etc last night with the view to colating them on one post and I read it that Onetel is free for an hour only?

Peak calls are made between 8am to 6pm weekdays. Off Peak calls are made between 6pm and 8am weekdays. Weekend calls are made between midnight Friday and midnight Sunday. After the first hour Local and National calls will be charged at 0.90p per minute. Calls are billed per second and a minimum call charge of 4.8p applies to all chargeable calls.

Can't find some of what I was looking at last night either and lost the post I was doing but maybe you can confirm what is the case. My offer with TalkTalk finishes in August so hoping for a decent offer on the table by them icon11.gif

If you look here or here then it reads (to me anyhow) that the hour only applies to the evening calls. That is 5p for a hour, and then you start paying 0.9ppm. I couldn't find anything that reads any kind of time limit on weekend calls.

Compared to TalkTalk, who state that their free weekend calls are only for 70mins then you get charged thereafter.

As far as i'm aware those that don't make absolutely loads of calls then using OneTel CPS at the weekend and Call18866 for calls during other times is the cheapest option.

For those on non-BT lines (Telewest/NTL, etc) then you can still use OneTel (via their freephone access number) for weekend calls but use Call1899 for calls during other times.

    UPDATE:

Remember with OneTel you get free DQ calls. I've not included Tesco as I don't think they come into the comparison except their calls last upto 90mins but dont include free weekend calls. Click here for more info.

For those wanting unlimited free calls then Tele2 I believe offer the best at £9.95 for unlimited calls (with no time limits unlike TalkTalk). Click here for more info.

The second link leads to the bit I posted and my way of reading it is that all calls after one hour are charged at blah, blah??

Maybe someone who is on Onetel will come in and tell us but from when I was with Onetel there was a 60 minute limit on free calls but I paid the monthly charge for that package.

Having quite a few friends on TalkTalk makes me think I will stick with them unless a great offer comes up :D

I agree it is misleading but read the paragraph above it (I've included it below):-
This plan offers FREE weekend calls to UK landlines. Calls on weekday evenings are just 5p for the first hour, then 0.9p per minute.
I agree that if you talk to most people who are also on TalkTalk then their TalkTalk to TalkTalk for free at all times is great.

In fact, I'm gonna email OneTel about this and see if I get a reply?!?!?

Funny though as I've just emailed TalkTalk about this and they have amended their table as it read that TalkTalk was cheaper than OneTel for evening calls as they (talktalk) thought that it wasn't free at all!?!?

    UPDATE:

I've just rung OneTel sales and they told me it was free weekend calls without any time limit - it is evening calls that have a time limit on them of 1hour.
