Dodgy mechanic complaint?
Comments

So he misdiagnosed it as needing a gearbox.
At best incompetent.
Although you've accused him of sabatarging your car, your attitude is as poor as his diagnostic skills0 -
You're talking about taking him to court over a misdiagnosed piece of work that he didn't carry out because you got a second opinion, but because of this all his other work must be lies, but you have no proof?
Good luck. Let us know how you get on!
I'm not mechanically minded in the slightest, but I'm intrigued to know how the second mechanic knew to look for a screw in the depths of the car to diagnose the issue? Maybe he was in on it too?0 -
Unless you are a car mechanic yourself it's impossible to know whether they are 'ripping you off' or not doing work that doesn't need doing.gilbert_and_sullivan wrote: »Stop giving business to people you don't trust would be a good start, and if you inadvertantly find a rogue trader who swindles you, you don't reward them by going back for another ripping.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
@dannyrst i'm not going to pursue it in the courts. I was just gauging opinion on whether it was feasible. It is not.
I have submitted a complaint with evidence to trading standards though. Hopefully they'll investigate it and at least fine the guy more than he ripped me off. I'm not to fussed if I don't get a refund at this stage. Just felt obliged to put in a formal complaint to stop this chap ripping off anyone else.0 -
Seriously this motoring board is full of idiots and they suspect every new poster is DM, You guys seem to have very little going on in your lives and will not allow any new poster the time they should be allowed without making snipe jibes.0

@STEVIE PALIMO Couldn't agree with you more. Too much negativity by some posters. They don't merit replying to. I just mark them as spam and report them. Life is too short to waste it on bigoted people who have nothing better to do with their lives than belittle people on internet forums.

OK now I'm confused. I thought you didn't pay him to do the gearbox? So how has he ripped you off and what refund are you talking about? If for previous work, please explain the evidence you have for that work.
People make mistakes all the time. Perhaps he just assumed it was a faulty gearbox because he's worked 10 hours straight for the 12th day in a row? Guy might just need a break.0 -
Trading standards won't fine him. Get over it. Apparently it's going to be sunny this week. Buy yourself an ice cream and cheer up.0

I was just hoping for some advice on what I can do about a dodgy mechanic who has ripped me off in the past (I suspect) and who tried to rip me off this week? Story below:

Suspected of being ripped off in the past says it all to me.0 -
Can everyone let this thread die now please?
I have got the advice I sought. No need to make a soap opera out of this thread. Cheers.
This will be my last post on this thread. Thanks for everyone that took the time to offer constructive feedback/help.0
