Virgin media - Going wireless, the MAC way..

Hello!
just moved my son into his new flat for uni.
We have managed to get online with the modem attached to his MAC but we are not sure how to make it wireless.

We have a NETGEAR router, we were just wondering how we make the modem allow the internet access through the router..

any advise is welcome!

Thank you!

-EDIT- ITS CABLE

connect the router to the modem via the routers WAN port.
    Turn modem and router off.
Wait about a minute, turn the modem on and wait for it to settle down.
    Turn router on.

That should be it, the only settings you may need to touch on the router are to make sure it's set to automatically get it's settings.
