Selling a Macbook privately?

Hi,
I realise there are various threads on this on the web (and also here), but I am seeking some clarification if possible, as even Apple seem a little vague on this ...
I have a lovely Macbook Air that I have just replaced (to get longer battery life and I have a weakness for new tech). It is in great condition but the 'trade in' sites seem to offer quite low prices. I see on ebay they go for more, but I am worried about my own security here.
I deleted documents and programs on the Macbook and also logged out of everything (as advised by Apple). I then did an erase via system utility and restored the OS via the internet. I was unable to access the 'secure erase' function as Apple have deleted this for computers with SSDs, as it can apparently negatively affect the lifespan of the SSD. Apple claim that the erase and re-installation of the OS is enough to make it secure, but this isn't necessarily supported by other websites. The trade-in firms offer to do an industry-standard wipe.
Does anyone have any advice on this - i.e. am I being over-cautious or just sensible? If trade-in is advisable, can anyone suggest the best ones?

If you are that concerned then swap the hard drive out and keep the old one.0
