O/S Daily Saturday 4 June 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Showered, dressed and enjoying a cuppa and breakfast, as I'm working this morning.

Dinner last night was chicken, ham and cheese kievs, chips, beans and salad for the menfolk, I had mushroom omelette and salad. Food later will be pizza for lunch and then gammon, egg, chips and peas for dinner tonight.

I did get some of the "to do" list done yesterday, the huge ironing pile has been tackled, although I did have to dry the washing in the TD, as it just wasn't warm enough to get it dry inside or on the line. I did go first thing and do my food shopping, then I'd had a telephone call to say the nail technician could fit me in on Friday at 10am, so went and got my nails done and visited the building society and bank after the nail appointment.

Menfolk are going to be painting DS1's bedroom today, so hoping they can get going with that, then that will be another room finished.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

    Thanks for the thread nmlc.

As I wrote last night we had a great time yesterday, so much sunshine all day. Mum enjoyed our trip to Skipness and her king scallops.

Today promises to be another scorcher. No set plans yet though I sure whatever we do will involve more seafood. I'm off in a little while to the newsagent for Mum's paper.

There's been lots of texts last night from the family celebrating the birthday of the recently deceased nephew. His three brothers, his mother and I have been in touch all during the night. Of course 04 June happens 'earlier' in Australia than here. Such sadness too.

Hey ho - another lovely day ahead to embrace.

    Happy Saturday everyone.

    Good morning all,

Thank you nmic for starting us off, Hester must be having a lie in :)

Very overcast here, I do hope it brightens up and becomes a little warmer. I am having my hair cut today, but later than usual so will get some jobs done first.
    .
Tomorrow we have to visit the tip to get rid of the old carpet and a TV. It is such a busy place during the week so we have decided to go tomorrow as soon as it opens at 9.am.

Like Jackie our TV has been on the blink for some while, well unknown to us DGD ordered us a new one (a much larger one) and it arrived on Thursday. I told her she was naughty, but she just laughd and said since we wouldn't take board off her she wanted to buy us something we needed.

Himself is doing well and is looking quite sylph like, I have to go for an ultra sound on Friday to see why I have the UTIs.

Gers it must have been such a sad day but at least you were all able to be in touch and share your emotions

I hope you all have a good weekend

Morning all. I am back with you again after our few days in Liverpool for Mr TA's treatment. All went to plan and he has suffered no ill effects from it. He feels tired so he is resting as much as he can. Now we are back to the fortnightly bloods and monthly injections in Leeds until the diagnostic scan in September which will confirm whether or not the therapy is helping with halting/shrinking the growth of the tumours. That will be a worrying wait but, there again, that's been the story of the last 3 years.

For the first time in a while we haven't woken up to sun but it is forecast to return around lunchtime for quite a few days so all's well! I really must water the pots later they have got so dried out in our absence.

Managed to get a good shop done yesterday. With being away, first in Devon then Liverpool, the fridge was bare and veg stocks very low. After two weeks of eating anything and everything I decided it was time I got back on the straight and narrow and we are well stocked up with healthy food again!

I have two big butternut squash left from when they were on Super 6 at Aldi so they are earmarked for a big pan of soup to freeze in portions when time permits. I am drawn to Mary Berry's recipe for a change this time, instead of my usual one.

Today I must tackle a half hearted clean, dust and vac. The house is looking somewhat neglected after being away from it so much. And I am not even looking at all the weeds that need pulling up in the garden!

I really must catch up on your news but I did read about SPEKY's grandma and to him I offer my condolences. It seems these long waits for funerals are par for the course wherever you live these days. JUDI I was sorry to read your news last night too. I really hope you manage to sort something out and enjoy your time away.

(((HUGS))) to anyone else in need or want of one and take care. Enjoy the weekend if you can xx

    Morning everyone,

Foggy and dull here at the moment but already feels warmer and we have been promised sunshine for this afternoon :j

Went for my hair cut yesterday candlelight and feels so much better. Other than a few toiletries didn't buy much, hard to get excited about summer clothes when it's so bloomin cold!

Popped over to see Bill in the afternoon, he was in a happy mood and positively jogged in from the field, have been doing carrot stretches with him for suppleness which he loves. Will go over today and clip off his feathers, I love his hairy old legs but so do the flies and his heels can get nibbly and sore.

Other than that it's just washing and housework, wanted to bike into the village but although better my calf is still a bit sore so might walk Tilly down instead, it's a mile and a bit so too far for my old lady, she can stay at home snoozing.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

No sunshine this morning but it is dry and warm, hoping it hots up a bit as I have stripped my bed, including the mattress protector, that needs to be dry by tonight!

Friends coming for something to eat later, thought I would do spaghetti and meatballs (veggie ones as I prefer them) and have made some meringues that are in the oven at the moment, will fill those with some nice fresh berries.

Need to go shopping in a bit, DD is coming over later to stay and we are off to Gardening Scotland show tomorrow in Edinburgh, saw a programme about it last night and it looks quite good. Will take a picnic lunch so had better get DD a pork pie!

Gers - Glad you could all be together, sounds like your mum is having a good break.
JackieO - Happy Birthdays to all your grandchildren.
Judi - I hope you get everything sorted out, enjoy the rest.
TA - You must be glad to be home.

Have a good weekend. Take care. XX

    Morning :hello:

Plans went wonky yesterday, I didn't get any housework or gardening done. But the chicken fence is finished and I got to play with the staple gun for a couple of hours :D I'm not sure whether to take the old fence down yet, I want to sow grass seed and it'd be better to keep Scampi off it for now. But I'm desperate to get rid of it at the same time.

I'll put some washing on in a mo, then sweep and mop the floor. I'll take Scampi out for a walk after that, then see if I can be bothered to do anything else :D There's lots to do but my leg is sore today. I was kneeling on the floor while stapling along the bottom of the fence and struggled to get back up, lol. I twisted to one side to take the pressure off my right leg so I could stand up, I must've pulled a muscle slightly, I didn't feel it at the time though . It's not too bad so I'm hoping it'll loosen up while I'm walking. I cleared up most of the mess in the garden yesterday but there are still a few bits of wood and wire lying around, I'd like to at least tidy that up.

It's cloudy at the moment, I hope it stays that way. It was sunny yesterday, my face and arms are very pink and I don't want to turn red :D

    Morning all

I'm up now, I slept better last night as I had only a couple of hours sleep the night before.
I blitzed the spare bedroom as we have 2 DGC staying tonight, we are collecting them around 10ish this morning.

The fish have been fed, hubby and I have a cuppa and the WM is chugging around, it's 12 deg, damp and cold here again so the washing will go on the maiden.

I'm a bit hacked off, I'm still packing and decluttering but yesterday hubby said, 'How many people have you helped declutter' well this thought had been bubbling under as I have helped 3 or 4 people empty out houses either because they are moving or after the death of a relative. Yet I'm doing mine on my own as they are all 'too busy' to help me. Oh well, that's life. One of the people I helped last year needs help again next spring, funnily enough I think I'm going to be 'too busy' then she askes for help next time.

Time I stopped whinging and got on.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Good morning all,
Cloudy here but should brighten up later.
DS, DDIL and their best man completely transformed my garden last weekend. DS stained all my decks and balustrades. Then they put up hanging baskets and Re-potted lots of big plants. OH then painted table and chairs. Whole garden is now lovely and ready to sit in. :T

Having a relapse of my MS at the moment. My left leg has gone numb:o. The Hospice nurses think that I could do with another day in the day centre, so I will be going Monday's and Wednesday. It means that I will get a meal and can mix with others. Looking forward to it. :T

Hope you are all okay. Going to have a fry up this morning, think I will have liver and bacon tonight.

    Have a great day guys.

    Morning all,

Hugs to all those in need, especially Gers. It's my DSis birthday today so I have just messaged her in Cyprus - they don't fly home until Monday lucky things. I have a severe case of post holiday blues and hate saying bye to my Dad. Slept for 10 hours last night though, so feel more rested today.

We went to Aldi for our shop yesterday. DH was very impressed with the bill! It's a bit of a drive and Tesco is only down the road, but it's worth it to save some money.

Taking Ds1 to work shortly then back to tackle the ironing and have a tidy round. In laws coming for a BBQ tomorrow as its meant to be nice. Will need to shop for bits and bobs for that later today at the butchers.

    Have a good day all
