Drilling 2 holes for bath handle

If I wanted just one bath handle fitted to a steel bath, I'll have the option of buying a steel bath with two pre-drilled holes on each side of the bath and inserting two unsightly plastic stoppers into the side where I do not want a handle.

Alternatively I can purchase a steel bath with no holes and drill two holes on one side.

Would you have any advice on how to drill two holes like this without destroying the bath? Or general opinions on how feasible this is?

Thanks!

Crikey, I'm confused now, must be the wine.

I'd go for a plastic bath.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

You will need a Diamond Holesaw to remove (grind away) the enamel, and then a metal holesaw to cut through the steel.

An other idea is to find a local supplier who will sell you the bath and fit the handle for you. They would then take the risk of damaging the enamel. Their fitters will probably have the drill bits already.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

No don't get confused someone miss-read tap holes for handle holes,:o:o:o, on someones part:rotfl::rotfl:

DO NOT DRILL the bath, you will possibly chip the enamel to a bigger dia than the handle will cover. Even if you don't the edge will rust even if you attempt to paint it, get some nice chromed blanks to cover the spare holes, assuming the handle is chrome
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Assuming you want the handle on the wall side of the bath, mount a handle on the wall instead.

I hadn't realised there were chrome blanks, I'd only seen the plastic ones. I'll have a look for them.

I hadn't thought of that possibility.

I hope I don't offend anyone here, I have my own disability issues, but a handle on the wall always looks like it's intended for a disabled person, I'd find myself thinking "no, don't need one off those yet":):)

(in actual fact it probably won't be long)

Don't even think of drilling an enamelled bath. It could end in a lot of heartache.
Get a good quality plastic bath or fix a handle to the wall as already suggested.
My bath has built in handles , but i am going to have to fit a handle to the wall as well soon.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Another vote here for a wall handle. I have no mobility issues, but sometimes do feel a bit faint when getting out of the bath, and would find one helpful.

If you speak to the likes of Bette or Carron direct you would find they would do you a special with just a single handle. Simples
