Tesco Direct and Indesit Dishwasher

So my 260 quid Indesit dishwasher has failed after 22 months.

Tesco claim there is a 12 month manufacturer warranty although this is not mentioned on the website.

They also claim the sale of goods act doesn't apply.

So Indesit are !!!!! making a dishwasher that fails after about 300 washes.

And Tesco are possibly worse claiming the sale of goods act is not something they need to bother with - this according to James AAF0 in their call centre and Anthony RJ59 his boss. I wonder if it is a training issue or it is company policy to try and deny their legal obligations?
I think....

Electrical goods are not built like they used to be and have become just as disposable as a babies diaper. We have had several appliances fail recently, all being 12-16 years old, and even the sales people told us you would be lucky to get 4-6 years out of the new model. Shame!

However, being 22 months old I believe the onus is on you to prove the fault is inherent to the machine so probably need to get an independent report.

I have a feeling that you may have been talking cross-purposes or may have misunderstood - I have usually found Tescos OK when it comes to such claims.

Weird to hear their call centre staff are known by their number plates. In any case....

This isn't an obvious case of durability. Tesco and Indesit could argue that 22 months for a £260 machine isn't unreasonable. It probably is, but not as unreasonable as a £600 dishwasher failing in a similar time.

You will need to get independent evidence and take Tesco to court - they will probably settle.

You are aware I was born in America and moved to the UK over 40 years ago - so the occasional Americanism may still exist. ;)

Contact the manufacturer and tell them that 22 months is not a reasonable lifespan for the machine.

I have found that they either offer a subsidised repair or replacement (the latter being an air con unit, Do-it-All's own brand that failed after about 15 months).
