Fewer comps...

I've been comping for about two years, and display 200 per page on the main board. There always used to be around 26-29 pages, and gradually especially over the last few months it's got less and less, and now we're at 20! So if you're feeling disheartened about not winning it's because there's fewer comps but more compers! haha

I know, I just didn't realise quite how much they had dropped
I've been comping for about 7 years now and noticed the amount of comps dropping and amount of compers rising throughout those years. It is definately harder to win these days!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
I agree. A few years ago I could really struggle to catch up (working backwards to page 1) but now I'm done in double quick time! Although that could be because I enter less than is posted, mainly as I don't do TW, FB (comment/shares), Gleam, Rafflecopter, most Mag Dailies etc...
Does anyone else miss those out or is it just me?!Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A
I would like to be lucky,healthy & happy in 2020! :T0 -
I was only talking to my OH the other day saying this however I think in part it is not that there are a lot less but that due to Social Media they are on the board for shorter periods
A few years ago each comp would have a 3 month+ deadline meaning they were on the board longer whereas now you get many 2 day/ same day deadlines so they come on and leave the board within a short time period whereas they would have remained previouslyJuly 2015 Wins- Shaun The Sheep Goody Bag, 4x Books
Year to date: £786
Total to date ( Since 2008 ) = £37,345 :eek:0 -
Perhaps there is also another factor involved.
That is the bigger the MSE Comping forum becomes the less inclined members are to find and post up new comps.
In its early days I'm sure members felt that MSE was more of a club where everyone helped each other to win. Now with the great influx of new compers due to the frequent newspaper coverage of the hobby I'm sure it has become a lot more anonymous and the good nature has declined. ( a bit like the EU really - lol)
..
Plus of course there is that old chestnut where people say "I never post comps because I always find someone else beats me to it."0 -
I've also found the type of comps have changed , my board os a load of red ticks , I don't want family tickets to any event or tourist attraction, I did festivals when Reading was Reading Rock ( Lucky enough to see Thin Lizzy's last concert with Phil Lynott & I meet Suzi Quatro) and I don't want to win comps for sweets as I'm diabetic but have no self controlproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

Yep! Agree with this - LOTS of red ticks here too!! Although another reason for that is I've become a lot more picky in what I enter! I don't want to go up against 3000 compers for a fish slice, keyring, months supply of cereal bars etc.. I tend to do web entries mostly these days as I think the odds are slightly better than FB/TW. But, there definitely isn't as many good prizes!Debbie0 -

Me tooThere are loads of comps out there to win prizes worth pennies and I just don't bother even looking at them!
