EON - MSE Fixed 1 Year Collective

I joined the energy club for this
It says - MSE Fixed 1 Year Collective Sept 2015 Online - I had been paying £17 a month for this. I have checked my account this month and have been charged £39 - I received a letter saying this is what I will be charged monthly. I thought being on the MSE deal it would be £17 a month til it ends? I have logged into my Eon account and it said plan end date: 16/09/2016

Sorry for the daft question (baby brain)
Shouldn't I be charged the £17 a month til the 16th September or are they allowed to do this?

The £17 is based on your estimate of energy used, it is not all you can eat for £17. If you use more they are entitled to raise the monthly payments so you do not get into debt. You need to check that the new figure is reasonable compared to your use and repaying the debt. Have you been submitting regular meter readings ?

Check that the revised DD is based on an actual meter reading and not an estimate. Remember, it looks worse than it is. The calculation goes like this:

Your initial projection was based on 12 times £17 per month or £204 per year. I assume that the £39 is based on the remaining 6 months of your contract.

Amount paid to date = 6 times £17 or £102

    Amount due for next 6 months = 6 times £39 or £234

    Revised amount = £234 + £102 or £336 for the year.

In other words, your have used more energy than you assumed and your initial monthly payment should have been £28 per month (the additional £11 is to cover the underpayment for the first 6 months)

Of course, all the above could be fiction if you haven't been giving the supplier actual meter readings.

    Afternoon angelcake.

With our Fixed Price tariffs, like the MSE Collective, it's the unit rates per kWh and daily standing charges that are guaranteed not to change for the duration of the agreement. Monthly Direct Debits, though, are different. They're based on prices and usage and a change to either usually results in a change to the monthly payments. As you're on fixed prices, I suspect you might be using more energy than anticipated when you switched. Guessing though.

The aim is to achieve as near as possible to a zero balance by the time of the annual review. As molerat says, we try to avoid accounts building up too much debt by this time. Although we review payments regularly, if necessary, we'll only make changes at the midpoint and annual reviews. At the other times, we'll let you know if we think payments should change but leave it up to you to make any alterations.

Like Hengus says, make sure the account is billed up to the latest meter readings. If not and we've used estimates, let us have up to date readings. We'll be happy to rebill the account and review the payment arrangement again.

Not sure if you know but, if you've registered with our website, there's a tool on there to give you more control over the arrangement including being able to change the monthly payments. It's the Direct Debit Manager and comes in handy should circumstances change. So long as the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, payments can be changed by up 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings. Before confirming the new amount, we'll let you know by how much we anticipate the account will be in credit/debit by the time of the annual review if payments are changed but usage doesn't alter as expected. There's more information about how we look after Monthly Direct Debits on our website too.

Hope this explains angelcake. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

I signed up with E.ON for the MSE Fixed 1 Collective Sept 2015 last year
I've now been told by EON that the contract end date is 06/09/2016
Which is as I was told when I changed over ( I was with them previously)
Tariff ends on 6 September 2016
Price guaranteed until 6 September 2016

However the MSE Fixed 1 Year Collective Sept 2015 Online page when logged into my account gives a different end date
    https://clubs.moneysavingexpert.com/cheapenergyclub/
Early exit fees: £30 (unless you're 50 days from the end)
    End date: 16 Oct 2016

This is over a months discrepancy in the end date

Can anyone explain this as I'm a bit confused?

Anyway I will have to change and Avro seem to have the best deal currently, does anyone have any more current experience of this company than the thread I found?

CEC personal page relies on info you input, it has never set my end date itself. The E.On deals end 1 year after commencement.

Go into your CEC account and amend the end date in line with the contract you entered into with Eon. :)
  • Hi johnpr98,

The tariff end date on Cheap Energy Club is just an estimate (your supplier doesn't share the exact date with us), so the one on your bill as stated by E.On should be accurate. To update your tariff end date in your Cheap Energy Club account, just log into your account and follow these instructions:

    • On the Welcome Back homepage, scroll down to Current Tariff Details,
    • Click on Edit Details and then you will be able to update your usage, as well as, your supplier, tariff and tariff end date

I've now worked out how it happened, as I said, I was with Eon previously and the Oct 16th date was my previous contracts end date, when the application to change went into Eon they arranged the Tariff switch immediately, hence my confusion twelve months later :)

Still not sure about Avro Energy yet as their reviews seem to be iffy, is there a new Energy club collective deal imminent?

    Thanks

Some would have expected, quite reasonably, MSE's "Cheap" Energy Club to be aware that if an existing E.ON customer uses a collective switch to avail himself of a different E.ON tariff, E.ON, when it processes the switch, backdates the customer's new tariff to the date upon which he applied for the switch.

Which date would indeed be known to the CEC.

    Hi Sosumi,

It's an interesting point that you've made - we do of course know the application date. However, our system is currently not advanced enough to calibrate to individual provider processes. So there's an across the board logic of your switch date, plus 4 weeks, plus the term of your tariff.

However, this is a good improvement suggestion for our functionality and will be one I'll be mentioning to our product manager!
