mrsite and vista

Hi all - I'm a complete novice with computers but have had to make an effort since my son went to uni:D I've set up my ebay business but really want to start my own website. Anyway, have looked into things and think I could cope with mrsite - anyone else use it? The requirements for using it say nothing about vista which is the operating system on my laptop - will it be ok? I'm a bit wary cos my son bought a wi-fi usb connector for his DS which worked fine on our old computer but would you know it isn't compatible with vista - more money............... Enough waffling, any ideas??? Thanks

  • The "features" page of mrsite's site.. says:
    "No Fiddly Software
There is no fiddly software to load onto your computer as Mr Site is browser based. This means that all your website creation work is done whilst you are connected to the internet at the Mr Site website"

If there's no software to install and its done through a web browser it should work fine on vista, linux, a mac.. anything with internet access really.

Edit: You *have* to see the "see mr site in action" video on their website -> "what does the world's most popular Henry VIII impersonator think of Mr Site?" Lol

Edit: The sites made with it really aren't anything special. Microsoft Frontpage Express standard (used to come free with Internet Explorer..don't think it does anymore) I'd have said. Other people here may know some better ones.
  • Although I have never used mr site, I suggested it to a pal of mine who used it to build a basic site and he is happy with the result. The only slightly obscure thing is the site is hosted in the Lebanon!

I do only want a basic site to start with so this may be ok.Thanks for that.

I did wonder though, if my domain name is registered on mrsite does this mean i can take it with me if I want to move? Or would I just stay with mrsite and upgrade? I did read somewhere about mrsite pro but don't know if thats available .......... I just don't want to get it too wrong at the beginning:D

  • Of course it depends on what you want the end result to be like.

I just use it for a "Personal" site and think it's the bee's knees.

I knew nothing when I started but with help from a separate forum, I've gone from "WYSIWYG" to actually adding coding from sites that help with this type of thing.

Have a quick decko at my little effort at https://www.mr-kes.com.

    I love it :T

  • Take a look at https://www.lycos.co.uk for domains etc. They do also have web iste hosting that is reliable. I have used them for a few sites they also include a free website builder.

Also look at https://www.3ix.com. They may not have a good reputation and pple on here have slated it but I have a few (small) sites hosted by them and in a year have not had any problems. e-mails have been reliable and the sites have always been 'up' At 50p a month you cant go wrong.

Get Lycos for the domain & host with 3ix
