I receive housing and council tax benefit , im unable to work due to illness and receive income support also, my grandson who lives with me is 16 and will start college this year and will be in full time education.
My question is , will he be able to work part time, just at weekend and have a small income for himself without it affecting my benefit?
thanks in advance for any information on this!

As long as he remains in full time education then this is fine.
Are you receiving child tax credits for him?
Don't forget to notify the council that he is continuing in full time education so they don't start taking non dependent deductions.0 -

No deductions apply whilst he's under 18. He can earn and have any amount of money.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

hi, yes i receive one payment from income support and another child tax credit payment, also child benefit as well as housing and council tax benefit.
are you aware if there is a maximum he can earn before it affects me?
he will be staying in full time education for the next 3 years and the college has told him its a good idea to work part time to get work experience and i was worried how that income would affect me!0 -
It won't affect tax credits or child benefit no matter what he earns as long as he remains in full time non advanced education.0

And it won't affect your income support as this is your personal benefit.0

No maximum....he could be earning £10,000 a week and your benefit will not be affected. Once he's left full time education and turns 18 then it's expected he starts to contribute to his housing costs from his earnings.:footie:

Child Benefit is something you should look at.
Apparently you have to notify them if he is staying on in education (as well as if he leaves). He can work up to 24 hours.

This is very badly worded.
As long as the young person is in full time education then their earnings will not affect claiming child benefit.
Put better here:

No, it is not.
It is the number of hours that the child works that is important. They have to inform Child Benefit if they work over 24 hours.
The link you gave only linked to the same one that I had given!
The link also refers to the fact you need to inform them whether the child stays in education or not.Torgwen..........
