O/S Daily Thread for Friday 3rd June

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning all

Coxsy, I saw your comment about your mum being at Crick and forgot to mention it, I also chatted to a lady who had a stall with crochet porthole covers, crochet blankets and canalware.

My one child free day today but I've been up since 4 so will probably need a nana nap later.

I have received an email back from the dance teacher about DGD being without a partner but all she says is 'I wasn't aware of the problem and any child without a partner dances with one of the helpers'. I don't feel this is acceptable because she should be aware, there are only about 10 children in the class. Also if one child is always partnered by a helper then they stand out from the others.

Hubby is struggling at work, he is moving items that weigh in excess of 30 stone, with one other person, no special arrangements were made as the items are on wheels. Only the items are so tall they have to be moved on their side, there are no wheels on the side! An extra labourer was booked who phoned in sick so was a no show. Yesterday extra items were also added to the job, boy is hubby grumpy.

    I'll stop whinging now.
    Hsve a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning, I was absent yesterday as went to work at crack of dawn and came back late. Today is day off which means work at home this morning, but will have the afternoon. I am going to see a friend.

Hope funeral wasnt too gruelling nmlc.

I had the most horrible dream that I was to be executed by burning to death and had to participate in this and also prepare two other people for it so woke self up and came downstairs. Am quite worried about state of my psyche now.

Hope everyone has a good dsy

    Morning everyone.

What a lovely sunny day yesterday. The trip down to Glasgow was really enjoyable but coming back was much more difficult. There was a fatal accident at Luss which meant that the road was closed. I turned back and went down to Helensburgh, Glen Fruin and Garelochead towards Arrochar. The first part was easy until Garelochead where the official diversion joined on, from then it was awful - very narrow windy road with traffic everywhere. Police weren't allowing HGVs down but the huge campers abs caravans made squeezing past very difficult. My car has now got four lines of scratches right along the drivers side, end to end. Hopefully they'll buff out with T cut.

Mum's installed and happy. This morning I'm invigilating again, for the last time and then we'll head off somewhere. There's a lot of cloud just now though the sun should burn through later.

My sore thumb is healing well, it's no longer sore to touch though when I banged it against the car door it hurt like billy-oh.

Once again the fridge is full, still no washing to be done. Happy days.

I hope everyone has a good Friday.

Wall to wall sunshine, so lovely waking up to this every morning but I do feel that we will pay for it later in the summer!

Gers - What a nightmare, it's awful when that road is closed, the diversion is really grim. The road you had to go on is known locally as the wibbly wobbly way.
nmlc - Hope the funeral went as well as these things do.
HH - How can the dance school not notice when there are so few children? Poor hubby too, I'm sure there are laws against that.

Washing out but that's about it. I didn't feel too good yesterday when I got in from the hospice, I think I just overheated, I really wish I could sweat when its so hot, instead I just get hotter from the inside!

Earlier finish for me today, I get quite excited on a Friday. Need to go to the bank, do some shopping for visitors tomorrow evening and come home to give the house a much needed clean.

Have a good Friday all, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, he's on school hols so can sleep in.

Very cloudy and overcast here, still quite chilly, but wind had died off a bit.

Dinner last night was roasted chicken portions, HM veg fried rice, and pasta with a cheesy sauce. Tonight will be something and chips/jacket potato.

Funeral went ok, crem was packed to the rafters with some people standing, service was lovely. Fortunately there was no major upset but the 1 person that we thought would cause a problem, did say some not nice things to a few people, that certainly weren't called for or appropriate, and that person didn't speak to me at all for the whole day - sounds like a win win to me! DH is particularly unhappy with it and for the moment has said he doesn't want anything to do with them. I know that doesn't make it right, but we've been desperately trying to keep out of all the issues that are being caused by this person and have not taken "sides", it's just got to a point now where you realise that some people are toxic, and maybe it's just better they weren't in our lives - not sure what's going to happen long term. We'd never stop our boys seeing them but DH and I won't be visiting for a while, DH is disgusted with the behaviour and how they've been treating people. It certainly didn't go un-noticed yesterday. At least there wasn't a major stand up row or fight caused by person saying not nice things, they left before us.

Have all the normal stuff to do today and a nail appointment this morning, so I'll be heading to the SM very shortly, so I get there as they open as time will be a bit tight.

    Keep safe and well x

    Moring all,

Its a bit overcast here today again, its been a really bad half term for the children weather wise, yesterday at work was busier than its been all week but still not as busy as normal its such a shame as we have got all the stock in for a busy week, never mind we will use it eventually.

Takeaway tonight not sure which kind yet but it will be up for discussion later on ! Im sure wine will make an appearance too !

Need to wash some work t-shirts as I'm working this weekend, and will have a quick clean through.

Hester im sure there are laws on the weights people carry ?

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone,

Dull and overcast here but we have been promised better weather for the weekend.

Day off today but up early as am going into C/bridge to have my hair cut, good job as it grows out rather than down and it's getting scruffy.

Enjoyed our meal out last night, great catching up with friends and the food was tasty, I had a dessert :j didn't go to bed until nearly 12 which is unheard of for us so might have sneaky little nap this afternoon.
Few chores to do, bit behind with the washing due to weather but hopefully will catch up over the weekend.

Nmlc glad the funeral went relatively well, you are right some people are just toxic and my tolerance for such people seem to be lessening as I get older?
HH poor hubby and gggrr re dance school, poor excuse imho
AOD that nightmare sounds awful, bless you :(
  • Good Morning everyone, we've been away for a few days visiting the girls and going to the Bath and West show which was really nice, feel refreshed now and it's nice to be back home and in harness again. A grey and breezy start to the day down here, feeling quite cool too although I believe it's forecast to cheer up and get a bit warmer later on, we'll see!

Today I'm off for some fruit and veg, He Who Knows is heading to the allotment and the garden is looking well. I picked the first ripe strawberry from the garden bed yesterday and it was delicious, a few more ready for picking today so that will be my treat, he doesn't like them! There are peas in the pod in the polytunnel ready to harvest, also sugar snaps ready too and we have little gem lettuce ready to use and some mixed salad /stir fry leaves too. It looks as though it IS beginning to be summer after all.

Have yourselves a lovely day everyone, Lyn xxx.

    Good morning everyone :)

Thanks again for all the lovely messages, very touching. The funeral will be next Thursday, which is quite a long time to wait in my opinion. Work have been very fair during the past few days which is also appreciated. Looking forward to finishing work today and just get my head straight over the weekend.

Gers - the traffic out Luss way tends to be slow at the best of times too!!! If T Cut doesn't work, AutoGlym have something similar which I found to work well on my last car.
Lurcher - you've got me salivating!

Have a lovely Friday and weekend when it comes.
