motor legal cover
For years I've had legal cover as a free benefit via my motoring association, so have always ignored it as an option on my car insurance.
I'm now considering lapsing that membership, so as my car insurance is up for renewal I'm wondering whether to pay for the optional legal cover.
From what I can understand, the policies only ever pay out if there is "a reasonable likelyhood of success", in which case one could equally go to a 'no win no fee' solicitor.
As an alternative, there seem to be several free/cheaper stand-alone policies eg

Any experiences, thoughts or opinions?

A lot of the no win no fee operators now take a cut out of your damages since some changes in the law in the past few years.
This doesn't happen if you have Legal Expenses Insurance.0 -

Exactly.
NWNF means they don't get paid if they lose.
Legal expenses means they won't take the case on if they think they might lose.
NWNF means they take their fee out of your winnings.
Legal expenses means the insurer pays their fee.
If you think there's a chance of losing, NWNF is your better bet - because LE won't get involved. Mind you, NWNF might not find you anybody who wants to be involved, either. They don't flog dead horses for fun.
If you think there's an odds-on win for you, LE is your better bet, because you'll get your entire payment.0 -
Apart from claims isn't Legal Expenses supposed to cover you for motoring prosecutions too?0

I've bought a 2 year multicar policy from memonline for a number of years. Never claimed though but the cost is cheaper that the £29.99 that most Insurers rake in.The man without a signature.0

This is varied - the best place to compare these things is Defaqto's site here. With their star system you can see what's included in terms of replacement vehicle, motor prosecution defence etc.
One I know that does included the prosecution defence and for a decent price is the Silver policy from Best Price FS: https://www.bestpricefs.co.uk/motor-legal-protection/legal-protection-silver. It's £19.75 a year and it's actually got a 5-star rating on Defaqto.
Hope this helps!-1 -

Bit rich accusing spam coming from someone who has such a vested interest in the topic but chooses not to disclose it (on just this occasion !)0 -
You are good sport Quentin
Actually can you please elaborate on what "interest" I am supposed to declare here?
I was merely interested to note that an old thread had been resurrected over a month after the last post by a member who seems to have posted many linked to BPFS. The sort of activity that usually causes you to wet your knickers with excitement whenever I have partaken in such activity previously.
Whether I have an interest in the industry that this thread is about is completely irrelevant. Or are your self-appointed forum moderator dynamics only applicable to my posts?0
