Debit Card payments gone one day back the next

Hi, first post so Hi all!

On tuesday i bought a mobile for my daughter from a well known high street store. Paid for it over the phone and collected in store. Well the second I gave out my card number, the money went from my bank, as you would expect, wednesday it was still showing on my online banking as debit card payment but oddly through the night that night it vanished off my statment and the money was there in my bank again! its now sunday, we have had the phone since wednesday and there is atill no sign of the payment been taken from my bank. Anyone know what is going on there???? I'm fighting the urge spend it! It is simply like the payment didn't exsist, not showing as paid or refunded, its like it never happened! ow long do I give it before I spend?

Cheers Sonia

P.S. sorry about the waffle!

Once they can't balance their books they will take it whether there is money in the account or not.
If you spend it it will cost you a lot more in bank charges!
  • bother! never mind.

    thanQ for your reply

This happened to me and I was tempted to spend the money. The day after the money went out of my account and the bank 'excercised their right' to take the money from my other account, leaving me with no money.

I was stupid (emotional spending!). Apparently transactions can drop off and then come back on again.

  • Thats a pain, so how are you ever meant to know where you are? Its maddness to me!

    Cheers everyone
  • Simple keep a running tab with a piece of paper and keep it in your credit card wallet with your card and update it when you spend.

You could also try out those new fangled machines called computers and go online every day to check out your balances.

That's easy. You know where you are. You owe the money for the phone.
Like ejones said, spend it and it will cost you more in the future.
  • When I say how am I meant to know where I am, I'm not really talking about the phone money, thats a fairly large sum and quite obvious when something is a miss. i'm talking about the fact that I'm a busy single mum of three and I use my debit card a lot sometimes for bits and bobs here and there and if payment can just drop in and out of my acc randomly it makes it hard to know where I am, i think I'll go back to cold hard cash.

That is another good way to do things but of course you need to know that you actually 'have' the money in your account available to you before withdrawing it!

I do this, several times a day!

I only had a cash point card with my acc then the bank changed it and I had to have a debit card, with it came loads of letters telling me how wonderful having a debit card was and now look!
