Being Unemployed

Actually they are employed. By Tory central office as part of their campaign to encourage simplistic and generalised prejudices and demonise all the unemployed. I believe they are very pleased with the outcomes.
OP, personally I'm semi-retired, but as a house owner find no problems with filling my days. I don't even own a television, and not sure how people find the time to watch. But I just wanted to say, don't ignore door knocking. The exercise will make you feel better for starters, and there are a lot of small business people who aren't completely in thrall to their HR departments who appreciate seeing people in the flesh, and people who are prepared to make an effort. They may not even have advertised yet but just have it in mind, and you turning up might be a catalyst.
I'm in the south where employment isn't such a problem, and I see plenty of signs in catering establishment windows. It might not be so appropriate in your field of work, but it's still worth trying.0 -
I was unemployed for almost a year after returning from traveling.
Its easy to fall into bad habits, but getting up early is a must.
I used to get up around 8 or 9 and spend and hour or 2 doing job searches online. Then applying for anything suitable, then i remember i had to fill in some sort of job diary for JSA to check weekly what i was applying for.
I dint have any money to go out at weekends to blow off steam.
I could shop around supermarkets and look for reduced items to make my money stretch further, and looking in charity shops for books.
3 or 4 days a week i would walk to my local jobcentre to do a job search as a lot of what was on their system couldn't be found online. that got me out the house for a couple of hours.
I eventually started going insane and volunteered to work in a charity shop 2 days a week. After about 4 months a paid job came up which I applied for in the charity shop for assistant manager, it came at the same time as a job offer more in line with my career so i took that instead but the volunteering certainly helped0 -
I fill my day out by applying for jobs0

its mad, my tv is literally OFF every single day of the week... LITERALLY -
whatever i watch, i watch on my laptop after hours (mainly after 7pm)
but during the day i just cant fathom people who watch tv?!!? fair enough if you are off on holiday etc... but if youre unemployed, your mind should be focused on other things; not watching tv/playing games drinking beer !!!!!!....0 -
If you watched TV you might just learn something.
Depends how long been looking for work I guess and when you keep finding yourself in companies with 3 month probations!0 -
every company has 3 months probation or even 6 months probation these days.....
what company doesnt....?0 -
I have been unemployed for two whole miserable and years every day i apply for jobs and do the housework while my OH and LO go to work/school.
I live in the middle of nowhere so there is no work around here really and when there is there are so many applicants that i don't stand a chance.
I have done college courses and volunteer work to help me get work but people just want to keep me working for free.
I have thought about moving but my OH and LO dont wan't to, I have thought about starting my own business but i cant without money to start up. I have had interviews that have gone really well and i thought i had the job only to be rejected.
Being unemployed when you want nothing more than to work is like living hell. I have tried all of these government schemes to get people back into work but its all just another ploy to get you working for free.
I am a creative, hard working, intelligent person who is being wasted. I'm starting to think i will never get work, im not even fussy with jobs i apply for but i have literally had 2 interviews in 2 years out of hundreds of applications.0
