Humane killing

There seems to be more slugs than usual this year, my seedlings have no chance to grow. Slug hunting after dark and snipping their heads off with scissors, but has anyone a better or more humane method? Trying to avoid pellets (they can poison slug predators and birds) and not cause undue suffering, even to the slugs.
Any suggestions gratefully received!

Salt, simple and cheap to buy. Walk round stomping on them, again quick.

Salt is cruel. Stamping is quick and efficient but they have to be on a hard surface. Horrible squelch too!

Isn't a jar half filled with beer fairly traditional?

Alcohol free beer is supposed to be the most effective. Take a slug of that, slugs.

Pick them up and stick them in the wok with a bit of garlic and oil.

Put them in a jar and do a release out in the country ( or the garden of someone you don't like ).

Snipping heads of with scissors a bit weird though...!
