Hi
I thikn we are jinxed, this always happensa to us when we plan our holidays in advance , every other time we have just cancelled the holiday and rebooked with someone else but this time we REALLY don't want to do that.
Basically Direct Holidays have written to say they have pulled the hotel we were due to stay in this december and have offered us an alternative. Now the alternative has terrible reviews so we don't wanna stay there. They go onto say we can pick something else and pay the difference at the CURRENT PRICE. I don't think thi sis fair as we booked like 6 months ago - prices have risen by about £250 pp . This holiday is for my oh's 40th so we want it to be good, but if we cancel and rebook with some1 else we're gonna lose out as prices have gone up so much!
Anyoine had any experience of bargaining with themn on this?! Or know exactly what my rights are?: It doesn't actually say in the letter that we are entitled to cancel but I am assuming we are?!!
Thanks v much for any advice!

Ok - we were going out 6/12 ( arrive 7th) to goa, for 2 weeks. Flying from manchester. Hootel was prazeres resort which they have now pulled. we were paying £1060. Just been on the phone, they have offered us Alor Grande for the same price ( which has awful reviews) , we asked for Alegria De Goa for the same price ( which is actually a lower * rating). They are asking for an extra £90 pp which we aren't willing to pay.
We know we aren't gonna get a palace in goa and it will be basic, just want a good basic clean place. Dayes are flexible apart from the fact we must be there on 20/12 and can't leave till 5/12 ( so actually not that flexible!!).
We have now decided we are also willing to go somewhere totally different ( would fancy USA) but doubt we'd get anything at this price.
They confirmed we can have full refund if we want.

This happened to my um & dad they booked a 5* AI in Cuba earlier in the year, way in advance, for thier anniversary.
However, the tour operator said that the chosen hotel was full and they could only offer some crappy one.
Mum said she'd think about it, and meanwhile called the hotel direct. There were rooms available for the dates, but not in the tour operators designated amount.
So my mum called the tour operator back, cancelled the holiday, but bought the flight, got the flight for cheap ( mind you this was about 4 weeks before they were meant to fly) and booked the hotel direct.
the flights were the same ones they were going to take anyway, and they stayed in the same hotel. They did have to sort out thier own transfers, so took a cab, which cost about a tenner.
ONce they got the refund back from the tour operator they were about 800 quid better off, for effectively the same holiday ( aside from the transfers)
Mum said she'd always try to do this in future, she didnt realise you could book AIs directly ( even though Id told her it was possible as Id done it myself ) Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

If you go to teletext page 228 and look through there or try this http://ww0.teletextholidays.co.uk/TV/Cruises/Cruising%20Worldwide/ITV-CRY_228/print.aspx if like me you have no pactice to wait for all the pages to roll round..lol but at the minute its £699 but you can get this down by playing them off one against the other maybe not down to £500 just yet but closer to £550-£600
If you havnt thought about it you would easy get a good Nile cruise and stay for £500If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -
