Freezer help!

Our fridge/freezer is integrated and was in when we purchased our house 5 years ago. I want to defrost the freezer but keep the fridge on. It's a Hotpoint, All I can find is A Class, can't find model no anywhere. When I turn the freezer knob on the right off the whole unit goes off. There is a mode button which seems to flick between 4 options - shopping cart symbol/frost/parasol on a beach?/champagne glass/bottle.
Help please!

Put everything from the freezer in the fridge.
Switch off the power.
Defrost the freezer.
Switch back on.
Transfer contents back to freezer.
The frozen food and chilled food should be fine for a few hours in the fridge, especially if you fill the fridge leaving as little space as possible.0
