Travelling to the U.S. for my semester abroad, need tips on getting cheap flights

Around early January 2017, I will be travelling to either Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Greenville-Spartanburg Airport or Charlotte Douglas International Airport. My final destination will hopefully be Clemson University if Trump sanctions my travel (I'm sorry guys but he's going to win).
Does anybody have any cost-minimising tips for flights to the U.S. from London?

Lets hope you aren't studying politics
If you seriously believe the US universities can survive without overseas student fees you are deluded.....bit like Trump really - his soundbites are mostly completely unworkable ideas in the real world (which is why he WON'T win
)
Go to https://www.kayak.co.uk and enter your dates (remember you'll need a return ticket - two one ways are more expensive and immigration get very twitchy -once you've discovered what the fares from London with various carriers for all three destinations (remember close is a relative term - the nearest one is 45 miles away - the others are further-so work out how you will get from the airport to college as the cheapest fare may not be the cheapest if it's going to cost you a mint in ground transportation) then put in the same destinations from Dublin and see if there is a good saving to be made (Ryanair from Gatwick and Stansted in January is £10 plus £35 baggage fees )I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Just to clarify, I'm not a Trump supporter, I just think he will smash Hillary in a debate and completely dominate the media in terms of getting free publicity. This election isn't about policy, if it was, Trump wouldn't have got the nomination.
Cheers for the advice, is a round trip really cheaper than 2 one ways? I reckon I'll stay for around 6-9 months depending on whether I can also get an internship, I'm not sure if I can book a flight back this much in advance.
Also is there an optimal time to book flights in advance?0 -
Usually as far ahead as possible- you should be seeing good fares for January now. Only exception is if there's a sale but none of your destinations are super popular so may not even have your destinations.
Two one ways are usually more - and immigration will give you a harder time with a one way. Try and find a decently priced return with a change fee to change the return date (some fares are totally unchangable so read the fare rules carefully)
I've just come back from the US - I didn't meet a single person who was prepared to vote for Trump - They want to vote for change - but Trump over time has become a step too far.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I guess you don't understand the difference between the words destination and airport. Atlanta is a hub for a reason.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
