eBay: Two accounts allowed?

I currently have one eBay account. A few years ago I turned it into a business account as I intended to try and become a business but it didn't work out. I did enquirer about turning it back into a neon all account but was told I couldn't .

Now I just use the account to buy things and have done for years but I am keen to have a bit of a clean out and would like to sell . I am aware as a business seller I would have to offer/ adhere to a lot more rules ( distance selling etc) that a normal private seller wouldn't. I'm not intending to sell dodgy items, it's just I don't want the hassle of items being sent back for silly reasons ( wrong colour/ didn't like it etc) and dealing with that. Most things will be books/ ornaments so this isn't a major issue but I also have slightly more high value items( electrical) where it could be.

So can I open another account just to sell things? Or is that not allowed? Should I remove the other account and just buy/ sell from the same (new one)?
I have a tablet and a phone I would like to sell. Would cash on collection ( so they can test everything works) be best?

Sorry, I've gone on a bit. Any advice would be appreciated 😊

Yes, you can have more than one account.

Up to you if you wish to remove the old account.

As you'll have no feedback on the new account and happy offering collection perhaps Gumtree would be a better option as you'd have no fees then.

Some people will avoid new ebay accounts for such items in case the seller can't be trusted and a few may try and scam you thinking you're new to ebay and can get away with it. You may also get people who want it posted and don't bother to ask if you'll post.

You're more likely to get a buyer if you give a postage option. You can offer both postage and collection. Just be sure to write down any serial numbers and keep that somewhere safe, describe the items well and honestly, put up plenty of photos, make sure you package the items well and make sure they're covered when you post them in case of loss or damage. Also be sure to set your seller preferences to block potential bad buyers and any countries you do not wish to send to. You shouldn't have any issues then.

Thank you for the good advice.

I was worried about selling on eBay as I've heard horror stories of buyers saying they've received the wrong item ( when the seller has posted the right one) and then the seller looses all their money.

For every horror story there are hundreds, even thousands, of transactions that go fine, you just don't hear about them because there's obviously nothing to hear. Plus in some cases the seller didn't have to lose their money, they just didn't find out what to do/were stupid/fell for an easily avoided scam.

With ebay you just have to read up on selling (including postage/posting) and common scams, list the item as best you can and check your preferences. That way you minimise the chance of anything going wrong and you know how to deal with it if it does.

If you are really that nervous about selling on eBay then I agree with the suggestion of using Facebook instead. If however you do decide to go with eBay, make sure you read the sticky thread about the problems of collection only items, and also the postage sticky.

If you are listing on eBay.co.uk, you have to offer PayPal as a payment option - you can't insist on cash.

(And you should never accept PayPal for collection items - one of Soolin's stickies explain why.)
