Lost Egg Account - A lost cause?

Hello,
I've been trying to track down my lost Egg account details for days with no luck. My account was closed in July 2010. The only details I have are my personal details, email address etc that I used to register and a load of old emails from Egg with my card number partially obscured. It's so frustrating as I didn't think I'd ever need my account again so shredded my agreements, statements etc but I'm absolutely certain I paid PPI over the 5 years I had the card.
I rang Citibank but they couldn't find any record of my old account so now I'm completely stuck as to where to start or if there is any hope!
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to go from here or should I just give up?
Thanks in advance.

2010 is not that long ago. Have you tried any credit reference agencies eg Experian, Noddle etc to see if they've got a note of the account number. I found an old RBS credit card number that was closed in 2003, still held by credit expert.
I completely empathise with you over lost account numbers, especially when you know PPI was included. Some banks are more helpful than others and locate them with a DSAR, so you could try that. If you paid the card by direct debit your own bank might have a note of it. Good luck.0
