SCS Colchester, Essex- hidden charges they dont advertise BEWARE

This was my experience on Bank holiday Monday at the Colchester, Stanway store approx 3.45pm.
So, over the bank holiday SCS were advertising £4.50m2 reduced down from £11.99 (maybe £12.99m2)
Anyway so i walked in there with my Mum and spoke to the Assistant manager James and said what size we need etc..
Worked out what we needed and started working out how much and then the total, i then said a delivery charge was not needed as i will pick up from the store.

James then said 'and you've got the £29 delivery charge 'i said no thank you im going to pick up in store' to which James replied 'no that charge is to get the carpet from our warehouse to the store'.
I then said 'well how is it you advertise the carpet at £4.50m2 when i can never actually get it at that price?', he said you are getting the carpet at that price but you have to pay delivery.

Me being me repeated it again, and his answer was the same. Now what infuriated me was the fact he then said 'and there's nothing you can do about it'
Well, then i said fair enough my mum went to pay for the carpet as we were rushing and i marched of to neighbouring store Carpet right to ask what their policy was.
On the way i rang my dad to ask him about it, (little did i know he then got onto their head office, more on that later)
They said they dont know how SCS can get away with it and they get many complaints, and the guy actually used 'youre being ripped off'

So, i marched back to my Mum who was just walking out of SCS and said 'no we are cancelling as its an unfair charge'
We walked upstairs and the went to cancel, it had to be authorised by a manager, funnily enough our lovely arrogant salesmen James authorised it to be cancelled.
They then took the order from my Mum, which had all the notes on, delivery charge and that we were collecting from store.
We left and went home.

Now my Dad had been on the phone and spoke to their head office who apparently said and i quote' Our delivery charge is charged to the customer when delivery is made to their house, NOT when carpet is taken from our warehouse to store'

So, all in all they are mis-selling and charging customers unfair costs. I'm even half tempted to go back to Stanway and get a copy of my order, it annoyed me that much.

I just wanted to make people aware that they shouldn't accept the charge!!!!!

I had exactly the same £29 charge applied at SCS Purley Way, even though I'd paid for an independent carpet fitter to collect from the store. They refunded me but only after making a lot of fuss.

    Bad people.

Be careful of extra charges. They advertise low headline rates but charge a fortune for things people pay less attention to, like the underlay and the gripper rods.

I would only ever go to a local independent for my carpet.

I bought my carpet (along with underlay and carpet gripper rods) from a local discount store, chucked it on the roof of my van (chucked may be an exaggeration as it was 4m x 9m and required a little help from one of the warehouse workers) and drove it home. I hired a friendly local carpet fitter to lay it once I had it in the house.

All for about two thirds of the price carpet right, et al, wanted.
