Double Glazing Quotation

Options
As per many forum members, I am entering the fantasy world of double glazing quotations.
So far, I have received two quotations, one from Everest (don't laugh), and one from a regional independent.... The spec is as follows:-

1 x 7 panel bay windows (approx 170cm height x 50cm each current section window) *
1 x 7 panel bay windows (approx 140cm height x 50cm each current section window)
1 x patio door (four panel approx 4m long and 2.5m high) *
1 x window 180cm x 120cm
1 x window 48cm x 88cm
1 x window 120cm x 118cm
1 x window 120cm x 140cm
1 x window 176cm x 170cm
1 x window 90cm x 86cm *
1 x window 40cm x 90cm *
1 x window 40cm x 50cm *

1 x front door composite (solidor)
1 x radial arch around front door, with glass panels each side to floor

Also, no trickle vents...but the openings have night vent.

Based in London received Quote £14800

Asking for £1210 more to laminate all downstairs windows + door (marked above with *)

The company also do not change the internal sill.

If I want the side panels to the door to be filled in with Upvc to half way, then an extra £550

All prices include VAT

Everest want approx £18500.....

The figures seem quite high, but there are 7 panel bays x 2...and a large patio...etc..... any help on this would be appreciated.

Just as a rule of thumb, and noting it depends upon type of glazing (glass cost is very significant), double E rated (not triple) glazed clear glass, size of job (bigger should be more cost effective) need for scaffolding, doors being more expensive than windows, size of windows (smaller generally being more expensive than larger up to a point), straight forward install, no bays or curves, top quality frames but simple ones in white....etc etc with lots of caveats.......
I use £250 per square metre as a starting point, out in the sticks(not London)You can work it out!
  • I would say even for london prices this is high i would of thought nearer 12k .Judging by height of down stairs bay i would say this should be toughened in bottom anyway which has a similar cost to laminated same with the patio
if you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction
