Stereo not ejecting CDs

Options
I have a Panasonic sa-ak 210 which must be 11 years old. Has the feature of playing 5 CDs.

Now I wanted to change the discs and it ejected disc 1 fine without problems. Now when I want to eject 2-5, it makes a grating noise, the tray inside makes a scraping noise and nothing happens.

How do I remedy this or cut my losses and buy a new stereo?

Remedy it by taking a screwdriver to the casework, and opening it up to see if you can remove the discs manually.

Disconnect it from the mains FIRST, and leave it for half an hour for capacitors to discharge inside. Do not reconnect it to the mains whilst you have it open

Google with the model number together with the magic words "service manual" and you might find a browsable or downloadable version which will guide you

If you don't feel confident about this, you could always look around for a local electronics repair specialist

Is there a small release hole on the front? Shoving a paperclip in there will manually release the tray, sounds like a disk is jammed between the tray and the chassis.

From what I can see through the grills on the stereo. The discs are in a stack 1 being the top, 5 the bottom. When disc 2-5 is played, the stack moves up in line with the tray, an inner tray moves into the stack, moving the selected disc onto the play area. Disc 1 is on top of the stack and hence why I was able to open the drawer to get it out without issues.

The mechanism to move the stack has gone.

Will open it up tomorrow to get to the discs.

Thanks. But it was just the circuit boards and didn't make head or tail of it.

I have removed the 4 discs inside - after removing 12 screws (cutting my thumb in the process) and tried it without the discs and it makes the same noises.

RIP stereo, you have been faithful to me for 12 years.

    Unsure what to get.

My first CD player went a similar sort of way : some whining noises, but wouldn't open the drawer. I discovered that flicking the whole unit upwards often did the trick. I think the problem was that a belt was slipping inside - the motor turned, but the belt failed to transfer the motion to the necessary bits and pieces. Tried but failed to find a matching belt.

It might well still be in the loft - might have more luck finding a belt on ebay or something these days.
